The Injury Prevention Outreach Coordinator is a member of the Trauma team at St. Joseph Hospital. The role will coordinate and implement prevention and training programs, develop resources for hospital staff and others related to injury education, and maintain a public presence of prevention programs by conducting formal and informal presentations and training.
- Develop training for acute care hospitals regarding injury prevention, initial patient stabilization and the identification of appropriate patient transfers as well as the transfer process.
- Serve as the liaison with local public health staff, community-based organizations and first responder and/or government agencies.
- Responsible for working with injured patients, members of the community, the trauma surgery teams at St. Joseph’s Hospital and St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital as well as the St Joseph’s Children’s Wellness and Safety team.
- Works with the ED and EMS staff to create and implement EMS focused education as well as quality and process improvements.
- Attends meetings at the local, regional, state and national level and educational offerings that advance injury prevention projects focused on reducing injuries through a multi-faceted approach (i.e., public awareness, training, public policy advocacy and community action).
- Oversees community education programs regarding the prevention of injury to increase public awareness through community outreach and media coverage.
- Significant local travel will be required for this role (all BayCare facilities).
Certifications, Licensures, Education:
- Registered nurse license- Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing- Required
Required Experience:
- 2 years' experience in Health Education and/or in emergency/critical care of the trauma patient required.
