Assistant General Counsel Employment

The Assistant General Counsel Employment directs and manages employment, labor, employee benefit and related legal activities for Bayer’s employing entities throughout the United States. This role provides specialized, practical and timely legal advice to management and staff in order to minimize legal and financial liability and preserve corporate assets.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Assistant General Counsel Employment, are to:

• Provide advice and counsel to management and Human Resource professionals at all levels on a broad range of legal issues, including but not limited to employee and labor relations, discipline and terminations, workforce restructuring, internal investigations, benefits entitlements, and immigration;
• Provide litigation guidance and manage internal resources and outside counsel in defense of litigation, threatened claims, and administrative charges;
• Facilitate legal training across a broad range of audiences and employment related topics;
• Provide legal advice on special projects and participate in various teams and committees to review particular issues and provide assistance in setting policy and direction and accomplishing project objectives;
• Partner in the development of and/or review operating policies, practices, procedures, agreements, other documents, and training to ensure ongoing compliance, consistency, and risk avoidance.
  
  

Who You Are

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and a Law Degree (J.D.) or equivalent degree from an accredited law school;
• Active membership and good standing with a U.S. state bar;
• Strong combination of expert level employment law proficiency, litigation skills, and the ability to effectively communicate to a wide variety of audiences;
• Demonstrated sound judgment, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, and the ability to influence management and other key stakeholders on legal and business issues;
• Time management, organizational, and analytical skills and the ability to make responsible decisions under pressure;
• Ability to travel as needed, domestically (frequently) and internationally (occasionally), up to 25%;
• Authorization to be immediately employed within the United States long term.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• 8 years of current labor and employment legal experience;
• Experience with areas such as traditional labor, employee benefits, OFCCP/affirmative action, immigration is preferred;
• Prior experience in an in-house counsel role preferred.
