Job Summary
The Civil / Structural Engineer role is a pivotal position within the Engineering and Construction organization. The primary function of the Civil / Structural Engineer is to offer civil and structural engineering support to the Site Engineering and Construction group for the successful completion of capital projects. Responsibilities include creating drawings and specifications, performing calculations, reviewing work, writing reports, evaluating construction sites, and liaising with the State Fire Marshal for building submissions and inspections. This role demands a high level of independence with decision-making authority on daily tasks, requiring extensive experience in civil and structural engineering.
Responsibilities
- Utilize department design and drafting standards.
- Understand project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
- Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies.
- Produce preliminary designs, material take-offs, and detail design calculations.
- Check calculations by other engineers/drafters for accuracy.
- Assist in resolving layout and detailing issues.
- Collaborate with design leaders from other disciplines.
- Develop construction specifications and review vendor drawings.
- Perform fieldwork for data collection and construction support.
- Provide technical guidance to junior staff.
- Lead small to medium-sized teams in civil/structural efforts.
Skills
- BS/MS in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET Certified Institution.
- PE Structural Engineering license in Louisiana.
- 10 years of relevant experience in a chemical plant or refinery setting.
- Proficiency in International Building Code and related standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI).
- Experience with civil/structural analysis software; familiarity with Staad Pro License preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office products.
- Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET Certified Institution
- PE Structural Engineering license in Louisiana
