The purpose of this position is to devote key assistance to the Planning and Zoning Director to ensure efficient and productive department operations. Responsibilities involve independent judgment and initiative; performs administrative duties; legal liabilities/support; financial accountabilities; graphic designing; clerical tasks; provides precise information to interested persons, and requires a high degree of multi-tasking. This position supervises staff.

- Four Year degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Land Use Planning, Geography or related field with two years of related work experience preferred. –or- Two year degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Civil Engineering, Sustainability or related field with 4 years related work experience.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or management experience.
- Advanced experience with MSOffice Programs
- Notary Public or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Physical Requirements

- Extensive use of computer monitor and keyboard entry
- Occasional bending and stooping
- May require occasional lifting of 30 pounds or less.
- On fieldwork days, may require walking / navigation on uneven terrains.
- Ability to talk and hear sufficiently to communicate in person and using electronic devices such as a telephone and computer
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with governmental accounting system (i.e. New World Systems)
- Experience with budgeting and expense tracking
- Experience responding to open records requests
- Experience working with the public, other county departments and governmental agencies
- Grant experience including: filing, monitoring, reimbursements, and tracking
- Knowledge of applicable State Statutes and Codes and County Ordinances
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to comprehend and interpret legal documents pertaining to department
- Ability to read and understand zoning maps, wetland, floodplain and other related map information
- Experience drafting legal notices, agendas, affidavits, and other department documents
- Experience preparing, setting-up and updating of web pages
- Knowledge of court proceedings pertaining to department
- Knowledge of Notary Public requirements
- Maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Considerable interpersonal skills in handling difficult and stressful situations.
- Ability to work without supervision and to supervise the staff in the absence of the Director.
- Ability to project a courteous and professional image.
- This position also requires that the employee be available to work beyond normal work hours.
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with the general public, fellow employees, and other county departments.
