    OVERVIEW
    Bayfield High School is seeking a full-time Counselor to work with our High School team. It is our mission to provide a safe and cooperative learning environment. Our focus as a team is to incorporate our school principles of community, empathy, effort, and integrity into our core standard curriculum and instruction. Through the use of technology, project-based learning, collaboration, team building, real-world problems, self-reflection, and high expectations, we are committed to develop our students into lifelong learners.

    Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado and is a short drive to Purgatory Resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area, and historic Durango. La Plata County is a world-class environment for outdoor enthusiasts with miles of trails for hiking and biking, wild rivers for rafting, breathtaking lakes for fishing and boating, and winter ski opportunities to complete 12-months of recreation. Moreover, Bayfield School District has strong partnerships with Fort Lewis College and a Pueblo Community College campus on district property where students and community members share our zest for life-long learning.

    JOB SUMMARY
    Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. The PWR Counselor focuses more specifically on preparing students for post-secondary options through ICAP, CTE and college/career readiness programs.

    QUALIFICATION
    • Currently hold or eligible for a Colorado Special Services Providers License with appropriate endorsement (or CDE licensure application in process) preferred.
    • Preference given to eligibility to hold a Colorado CTE endorsement.
    • Preference given to Master’s Degree in Counseling/School Counseling or enrolled in a program.
    • Completed and submitted BSD on-line application.
    • Inspire and work collaboratively with staff members and the community.
    • Commit to the district vision of Each Student, Each Day: Wolverine Way.
    • Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
    • Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure all district policies and programs related to the Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP) meet or exceed state expectations.
    • Serve as leader in student academic advising.
    • Implement programming designed to increase postsecondary and workforce readiness and 21st century skills.
    • Provide Professional Development for district staff on integrating 21st century skills into all content areas.
    • Develop community and business partnerships and coordinate community resources and participation.
    • Guide students in evaluating and planning for career interests and choices. Provide experiential career opportunities as possible.
    • Acquaints students and families with college entrance requirements, financial aid and scholarship applications.
    • Serve as representative on the CTE advisory committee.
    • Plan and implement services that support student in the content areas. Provide adaptive services based upon identified unique characteristics of students and communities.
    • Assess school culture and climate and implement programming that ensures an inviting, respectful, supportive, and inclusive school environment.
    • Maintain clear and constructive lines of communication with students, families, and other significant adults and/or professionals to build collaborative partnerships.
    • Utilize assessment information and other data as the basis for creating immediate and long-range plans.
    • Meet all legal requirements including timelines for professional practices such as, but not limited to IEPs, ICAPs, 504, RtI, concurrent enrollment, and graduation plans/requirements.
    • Monitor data to set trends and to create/implement programs to close gaps in achievement.
    • Respond to student mental health crises and needs by offering education, prevention and access to crisis/short term counseling. Make referrals to community resources as necessary.
    • Register new students to the school and orient them to school procedures and varied opportunities for learning.
    • Manage con current enrollment partnerships for students.
    • Coordinate with building principal in planning graduation.
    • Serve as Liaison for BETA at risk program.
    • Develop Master Schedule in partnership with building principal.
    • Serve as administrator for College Board assessments.
    • Coordinate work-based learning programs.
    • Participate in professional development for continuous learning.
    • Work with families in a partnership role.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues and community.
    • Follow State legal requirements and District and building policies and procedures.
    • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

    • DUCATION AND TRAINING
    • Preference given to Master’s Degree in Counseling/School Counseling or enrolled in a program.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

    • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; willingness to communicate frequently with families regarding school curriculum and student progress.
    • Knowledge of and deep belief in inclusion in the general education classroom for all students, including those on an IEP and/or learning English.
    • Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students; ability to personalize instruction for students so that all are challenged to learn.
    • Data-driven evidence of closing the achievement gap and deep knowledge of instructional practices that will do so.
    • Technologically literate and motivated to use technology to enhance learning.

    Per the Bayfield School District counselor salary schedule based on education and years of experience.
