SALARY RANGE: 21.68 - 32.52HOURLY
General Summary:
Oversee the maintenance of the Automated Distribution Cabinets (“ADCs”) and any future medication storage/dispensing units, hardware, and processes. Monitor usage patterns and status, initiate change, and coordinate medications for the ADCs, including setting quantities, par levels and drawer configurations. These responsibilities include all areas at Bayhealth where ADCs are functioning.
Responsibilities:
1. Participate in quality improvement through the Joint Commission-mandated inspection of the medication storage areas throughout the facility.
2. Monitor, investigate and respond to customers with respect to the ADCs (placement of medications, etc.). Work with Pharmacy Leadership to review, approve and implement requests for changes in the cabinet inventory.
3. Assist department managers, education and nursing with system maintenance including (but not limited to) security, user assignments and formulary maintenance.
4. Maintain a daily log of nursing, pharmacy and other ADC user cabinet issues and resolutions.
5. Facilitate the process for new station and cabinet builds, planning the hardware, drawer configuration, medication assignment during mapping process, and all other necessary tasks (i.e. add/remove/update beds, units, and patients) required through the go live. Actively involved in any upgrade of software or hardware.
6. Weekly emptying of Pyxis return bins and ADC surface cleaning.
7. Assist with training and education of staff. Exhibit willingness to provide in-services and training to new personnel (pharmacists, technicians, nursing students). Effectively communicate procedures, policies, and information in a courteous, professional, and informative manner.
8. Possess detailed knowledge of the Epic/Pyxis interface and activities, i.e. Patient Profile, Charging, Reporting and Formulary Management.
9. Training and testing for Epic upgrades utilizing the Pyxis Test Server/Cabinet and Epic test patients and profiles to verify medications cross over appropriately from Epic to the ADCs.
10. Direct users to the proper procedures in the event of ADC downtimes or failures.
11. Collaborate with other departments (i.e. Information Services) to effectively bring about change management for ADC upgrades.
12. Work in partnership with all vendors, Materials Management, Information Services, Plant Operations, etc., to maintain other small pharmacy equipment (computers, phones, faxes) in the highest working order; when necessary, procure new equipment. Troubleshoot refrigerator problems (temperature issues, malfunctions) and maintain them in working order. Update list of refrigerated medications and their stabilities outside of the refrigerator in preparation for potential downtimes.
13. Provide on-call coverage for urgent issues.
14. Schedule monthly cleaning of cabinet area (flooring under and between each cabinet) with Environmental Services. Replace Covid refrigerator pager battery as needed.
15. All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
