General Summary:
Performs a variety of routine duties related to the preparation and serving of food to customers at the Java City convenience store within Bayhealth Retail Services (known as C-Store). Employees are expected to maintain high level of departmental sanitation from dishwashing, pot-washing, and cleaning according to policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare and set up items at the Java City convenience store within Bayhealth Retail Services to include coffee, tea, pastries, grab-and-go sandwiches and salads. Ensure beverages, desserts, and condiments are stocked. Serves food using proper portion sizes and serving utensils. Notifies cook when food is needed. Sets up menu board reflecting current menu on a daily basis. Effectively prepare and serve all orders to patrons as ordered in a timely manner.
2. Responsible for ensuring all food temperatures are taken according to HACCP training and properly documented. Temperatures should be taken at the beginning of each meal period and every thirty minutes thereafter, including beginning and ending temperature. Immediately notifies cook, supervisor/manager of any improper temperatures or concerns with food.
3. Handle cash register and make change properly per established cash handling procedures. Cashiers are to count and sign for their banks at the beginning of their shift, initial cashier tape and place in cash drawer. Cashiers are required to ring in all sales immediately with no delay, close draw after each sale. Cashiers are not to leave cash register unattended or count any cash in the Retail area while C-Store is open for business. Over rings/voids are to be documented on register tape and placed in the register drawer.
4. The Retail C-Store staff will ensure all areas are clean, tidy, and well stocked with supplies. Maintain a high level of sanitation in all areas, including breakdown and cleaning of equipment. Must complete the cleaning sign off log daily by end of each shift. These areas will be checked through-out the day. Report any cleaning needs or broken equipment each day (if applicable) to the Supervisor/Manager to ensure follow-up with the department that will provide service’s needed.
5. Wipe off counters and tables; arrange, rearrange, and replenish items as needed. Participate in post-meal cleanup, as assigned or directed. Collect department debris and empty all department trash receptacles, clean and replace liners according to policy and procedures. Transport waste to proper disposal area. Follow proper floor care cleaning by keeping floors free of debris or wetness. Place wet floor signage when needed.
6. Employee will attend 100% of monthly Departmental and Mandatory Staff meetings/in-services (day of in-service or make up session). Employees will follow daily work schedule and report to assigned work area. Employees will use name badge with time clock for documentation of time worked each day.

- Experience: Preferred: One year food service experience in preparing or packaging food and/or serving food products, prior cash handling. History working with public.
