Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
Location: Southern Ocean Medical Center, 1140 Route 72 West, Manahawkin, NJ 08050
Start Date: 10/21/2024
Pay Rate: $35/hr- $37/hr
Assignment Length: 13 weeks

Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, 5x8 (40 hours/week) evening shift

Weekends/Holidays: No weekend or holiday requirements, but preference for candidates who can work them.
On-Call: Not required, but preferred
Float Requirement: Yes, may be floated to earlier shifts based on need.
Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for cleaning, processing, and sterilizing surgical instruments, patient care equipment, and reusable medical items. This role also serves as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room, ensuring accurate and efficient preparation and delivery of surgical instruments and supplies.
Key Responsibilities:

• Process and sterilize surgical instruments and patient care equipment according to departmental protocols.

• Operate and load sterilizers (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris), and ensure accurate performance and recording of biological and Bowie-Dick tests.

• Utilize computerized instrument count sheets and ensure proper record-keeping for sterilization procedures.

• Assemble and prepare case carts for the OR based on doctor’s preference sheets.

• Coordinate with nursing teams on any missing items and handle equipment shortages.

• Adhere to Medical Center’s organizational competencies and standards.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• National certification: CRCST or CBSPD

• Central Processing Course or 1 year of experience in instrument processing

• At least 1 year of experience in acute care settings

• Must be highly reliable and available to work all days unless previously disclosed.
