What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research & Development Scientist III position at Baylor Genetics?
SUMMARY:
The R&D Scientist will work in a high performing team with the goal of driving experimental execution in the development of sequencing products using NGS platform. Other responsibilities include optimization of NGS related platforms and product offerings and maintenance and support of existing products. The ideal candidate will actively participate in R&D projects with only general supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Required: Postgraduates in biological sciences with 5 years of experience in industry or equivalent.
- Experience:
- Additional Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have technical experience in next generation sequencing (NGS) and common molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, Sanger sequencing, etc.). Commercial (clinical, biotech, pharma, etc) experience using molecular biological applications in research and development of diagnostic products is a plus.
- Experience in clinical lab environment and understand molecular test workflow.
- Experience in library preparation for NGS on Illumina and /or long reads sequencing platform.
- Experience in RNAseq and methylation NGS is a plus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Focuses on the optimization and continuous improvement of sequencing technology for diagnostic use by contributing to experimental execution.
- Designs and performs specific experiments in support of R&D projects with focus on NGS assay development process optimization.
- Uses scientific principles to analyze, interpret, and report NGS and other analytical results and data.
- Collaborates in technical writing of documents for end-users.
- Applies experience in industrial setting and working within a QMS to assay development.
- Adheres to Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
