What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant/Physican Office Clerk position at Bayou Bend Health System?
This is a dual role position for a Medical Assistant and Physician Office Clerk:
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Prepare patient for examination.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records.
- Assist physician/practitioner with patient examinations.
- Clean examination rooms between patients.
- Clean instruments.
- Maintain and order medical supplies as needed.
- Communicate with patients regarding messages.
- Contact insurance companies to verify patient benefits and to obtain pre-authorizations/pre-certifications for all procedures/surgeries as required.
- Notify patient of monetary responsibility due for co-pay, co-insurance, and deductible for procedures/surgeries.
- Scan all documents into patient profile utilizing image titles for identification.
- Make referrals in an accurate and timely manner, as directed by physician/practitioner.
- Answer telephone calls in a courteous manner/assist caller or transfer/send message in CPSI
- Register patients for physician visits/labs in a timely manner
- Collect co-pays, co-insurance and any past due balances at time of service
- Scan all patient insurance cards and identification to CPSI
- Obtain and input updated demographic/consent forms and scan to CPSI
- File records in appropriate sections of patient electronic charts and keep patient charts in proper order
- Schedule follow up appointments
- Reminder calls
- Insurance Verification
- Assist with prior authorizations
- Verify incoming referrals are complete and accurate
- Assists patient with prescription pick ups
- Balance cash drawer to receipts list daily
- Prepare deposit
- Any other duties associated with position
- Medical Office Assistant Certification
- Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks within the job scope.
- Capability to work well with others in a busy office atmosphere.
- Ability to take directions from physician/practitioner and supervisor.
- Capacity to communicate pleasantly, in an understanding manner, with patients and/or their family members.
- Current BLS Certification upon hire.
