What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Account Clerk position at Bayou Bend Health System?
The primary function of the Patient Account Clerk is to assist patients that have received services at Bayou Bend Health System. This may be either with the patient directly or the insurance company as well as the physician’s office.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP::
The Patient Account Clerk reports directly to the PFS Manager, and works closely with patients, co-workers, medical records, & patient registration.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP::
- RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assist patients with questions and discharges
- Answer telephone questions regarding patient accounts
- Close daily Receipts & Revenue
- Assist patients with explanation of benefits
- Billed but unpaid aging reports VA, WC and IHS
- Unapproved Report
- Bankruptcy accounts
- Secondary Billing
- Billed but Unpaid Zero balance accounts
- Work Claims in RCM Queue
- Obtain Authorization for VA claims (ER)
- Review Transitional care qualifying stay
- Perform all other clerical duties associated with position
- All appropriate filing
- Assign third party accounts to Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs
- Open and distribute daily mail
- 72-hour readmissions report
- Post patient portal payments
- Pro Fee Medicare reimbursement spreadsheet
- Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks
- Must be detail oriented
- Must be a self-starter and work with little to moderate supervision
