What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist (Franklin, LA) position at Bayou Bend Health System?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of the Phlebotomist is to draw blood on out- patients and in-patients using acceptable identification; the proper supplies and to sort collected blood to appropriate departments.
**This can be a fulltime or parttime position. Hours are negotiable**
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Receives and checks requests for laboratory testing.
2. Receives and collects specimens observing principals as asepsis and personal safety, labels them appropriately, and distributes them to the assigned stations.
3. Keeps test tray and work area neat and clean and participates in terminal clean-up at the end of the shift.
4. Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
5. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
6. Attends required department and other hospital meetings.
7. Performs other duties that relate to the Phlebotomist position.
8. Answer department telephone and distributes calls as required.
9. Greet patients to the department; assist patients as necessary.
Education/Qualifications/Experience:
1. Previous phlebotomy experience
2. May be certified or non-certified
3. MA or phlebotomy education necessary
4. Ability to read labels, instructions, and directions.
5. BLS certification required upon hire.
