POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide accounting support to the Credit Union. This is accomplished by performing tasks necessary to balance and update general ledger and subsidiary accounts; maintaining and reconciling daily cash accounts, preparing various accounting reports as required; and performing other accounting-related duties. Performs tasks according to detailed standard operating procedures. Other duties include ensuring that reports, accounts, systems, policies, and practices adhere to general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and performing other duties as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SUPPORTING DUTIES:
- Balances daily work from branches and departments including verification of bank deposit to check imaging system compared to dollar amount received at Federal Reserve Bank. Verifies all clearing and suspense accounts daily and notifies appropriate areas of discrepancies.
- Assists members and staff with stop payment request for CU Teller Checks.
- Prepares journal entries daily for clearing/settlement accounts and balances related general ledger accounts.
- Submits IRA tax-withholding deposits weekly and maintains records to assist with tax filing.
- Performs bank reconciliations monthly.
- Performs daily reconciliation of all FRB account activity (ACH, Drafts, Deposits, Cash Orders, Wire transfers and Investments)
- Prepares and transmits weekly the FRB2900 report to FRB. Maintains the reporting definitions/set-up for report on Core system.
- Preparations of dealer-finance statements monthly.
- Prepares various weekly and month end reports for management.
- Balances general ledger accounts for 3rd party loan systems (1st Mortgage, Take Back and Student Loans)
- Balances daily all shares, loan, and exception accounts on core system.
- Balances daily future dated ACH receivables and clearing account.
- Monitors FRB account balance throughout the day to insure adequate funds for settlements.
- Maintains and process monthly fixed asset depreciation and prepaid amortizations accruals.
- Maintains Construction in Progress account for accuracy and timely move of competed projects.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education requirements.
Required Experience: Minimum 4 years previous work experience in accounting or related field.
Required Knowledge: Overall knowledge of general credit union operational procedures and policies. Proficient working knowledge of accepted accounting principles.
