Position Summary:
Bayport Laboratories is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Purchasing Coordinator to join our team in Houston, Texas. This entry-level to early-career role is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a genuine interest in the cosmetics industry and a desire to develop their skills in purchasing and supply chain management. The Purchasing Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the purchasing department in sourcing materials, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services essential to our cosmetic manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Purchasing Manager with the sourcing and procurement of raw materials (ingredients, chemicals), packaging components, and other indirect materials required for cosmetic production.
- Research potential vendors, gather quotes, and compare pricing and specifications to identify the most competitive and reliable suppliers.
- Prepare and process purchase orders (POs) accurately and efficiently.
- Track and expedite orders to ensure timely delivery and minimize production delays.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation, including vendor information, pricing, and order history.
- Communicate effectively with vendors regarding order status, delivery schedules, and any discrepancies.
- Assist in the evaluation of vendor performance and contribute to the development of strong vendor relationships.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including Production, Quality Control, and R&D, to understand their material needs and ensure timely procurement.
- Assist with inventory management and monitoring to prevent shortages and excess stock.
- Identify and report any potential purchasing issues or discrepancies to the Purchasing Manager.
- Contribute to cost-saving initiatives and process improvements within the purchasing department.
- Stay informed about trends and developments within the cosmetics ingredient and packaging markets.
- Perform other administrative tasks and duties as assigned to support the purchasing function.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is a plus.
- Must reside in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area.
- A demonstrable passion for the cosmetics industry and a keen interest in the product lifecycle.
- Strong interest in learning the principles and practices of purchasing and procurement.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with vendors and internal teams.
