BASIC FUNCTION
Provide technical support to the instrumentation activities of the HDPE and HDA plant with the objective of continuously improving reliability and health, safety, environmental and loss control performance. Provide instrument and electrical technical information based on sound engineering practices to ensure a safe work environment for all plant personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Position General
- Understand, support and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO), hot work, fall protection, traffic, lifting and rigging, confined space entry, and line break.
- Position is located in a chemical processing facility and requires overtime to meet plant needs, including alternative shifts as needed to meet facility needs
- Position requires periodic on-call duties, and the successful candidate must be able to respond 24 / 7, 100% of the time to plant emergencies on short notice, including nights, weekends, and holidays while on-call
- Complete all assigned training and field observations by deadline
- Contribute to continuous improvement by offering suggestions for long-term solutions to minimize costs, improve reliability, and improve loss control performance
- Ability to read and interpret PFDs and P&IDs
- Work closely with operations, other maintenance personnel, engineering, purchasing and outside contractors
- Other duties as assigned
Technical
Provide direction and technical support to the Maintenance I&E Supervisor, I&E Planner, I&E technicians, Analyzer technicians and DCS specialistsReview performance of plant systems and recommend changes regarding operation, maintenance, or testingOptimize PMs, end of life strategy, and overall instrumentation and analyzer maintenance strategyAssist Operations in troubleshooting instrumentation problemsAssist in the professional development and cross training of maintenance technicians with primary focus on controls and instrumentsLead Root cause investigations and failure mode analysis into controls and instrument reliability problems to implement counter measures to prevent recurrenceProvide engineering assistance and supervision for the justification, design, and installation of capital projectsPrepare and review engineering documents (i.e., data sheets, loop drawings, and isometric drawings, calculations, specifications, analysis, drawings, evaluations, etc.)Provide independent engineering support to Maintenance that requires field investigation, inspections, and solutions to problemsAssist with planning and execution for planned and unplanned outagesDirect, coordinate and perform surveillance of repairs involving outside vendorsAssist in maintaining accurate and current equipment file room documentationJob Specific

B.S. in Electrical, Electronic, or Controls / Automation Engineering (other engineering / technical degrees will be considered depending on experience)2 or more years of related experience in a plant environmentExperience with control valves, level, pressure, and temperature instruments, and control schemesFamiliar with but not limited to Rosemount, Honeywell, Emerson, and Vega instrumentsDCS and PLC experienceExtensive knowledge of instrumentation and analyzer systems and troubleshooting with an emphasis on instrumentationComputer proficient (MS Office, MS Project, SAP)Excellent verbal / written communicationAbility to plan and manage multiple issues / projects simultaneouslyPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Controls / Automation Engineering8 or more years of manufacturing experienceExperience with extruders, temperature controls systems, motor drive systems, and material conveyance systemsKnowledge of both production and maintenance engineeringStrong problem-solving and leadership skills
