BASIC FUNCTION
Working under teamwork and oversight, this role participates in responsible operations of the plant and its supporting equipment and systems. The purpose of the job is monitor and control the process unit while manufacturing is ongoing. All Operators are expected to be able to perform all job tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety, Loss Control, & Environmental responsibilities include the following:
- Performing weekly and monthly checklist of the fixed safety equipment such as fire monitors, fire extinguishers, hoses, and environmental equipment such as flares, thermal oxidizers, stacks etc.
- Understand and follow all lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and other health, safety, and environmental requirements necessary to achieve plant loss control objectives
- Locating and correcting any noticeable odors, leaks or visible emissions
- Being aware, and making management aware, of potentially hazardous conditions
- Utilizing the proper PPE to accomplish job tasks
- Keeping the assigned job areas clean according to plant housekeeping standards
- Following standard operating procedures, process and instructions to ensure safe operation
Routine Duties Include:
- Interpret and follow guidelines for properties and quality using product specifications
- Control operating parameters of the process to ensure Safety and Environmental compliance, product quality, and equipment stability
- Facilitate open communication between inside and outside operating personnel and advise supervision of any abnormalities
- Monitor and control process cooling water treatment system with periodic sampling for quality assurance of environmental and equipment protection
- Monitor operating equipment (pumps, valves, pressure/temperature readings, fans and chemical treatment systems) designed to control the variables of the water treatment systems
- Safe handling of hazardous chemicals handling or testing material such as magnesium ethylate, sulfuric acid, TiCl4 and Teal Employee may manage hazardous waste as defined in 40 CFR Part 261.3
- Monitor operating equipment in the Reaction, Catalyst, Distillation, and Extrusion areas
- Prepare equipment for mechanical repairs: clear, energy isolation, and render assistance
- Perform minor mechanical repairs such as gasket replacements, flexible hose hook-ups, and blinding of process piping for safe isolation
- Proper use of the technology and equipment (and calibration if needed), including hand-held analyzer, walkie-talkie, fire extinguisher, water monitors and contained breathing equipment
- Oversight of unloading raw material such as bulk trucks and tank cars
- Monitor and operate equipment in the extrusion areas of Bay 1, Bay 2, and Bay 3
- Take samples to the laboratory for quality assurance of the finish product
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or GED
- Passing scores on the COBRA, Math, and Bennett Mechanical assessment
- Proficient communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking English
- Able to follow standard operating procedures, processes and instructions
- One (or more) of the following:
- Process Operating Technology Certificate or Degree (or will complete the program within 2 months)
- or 2 years of polymers or petrochemical industry experience
- or relevant Military experience with an Honorable Discharge
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task
PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the incumbent to:
- Follow safety requirements for the role
- Lift and carry 60 pounds to shoulder height and carry that load 300 feet
- Push and pull 55 pounds of force for 20 feet
