The ethylene produced by the cracker feeds Baystar’s existing PE units, as well as our newest 625,000 ton-per-year Borstar® technology PE unit; the only one of its kind in North America.

BASIC FUNTION

This position will provide Instrumental and Electrical support for the continuous manufacture of quality high density polyethylene (HDPE) and specialty fluids (HDA), consistent with high standards of quality, safety, housekeeping, and good employee relations. Provide support all Baystar's manufactuing facilities.

Responsibilities

Include, but not limited to:

  • Wire-un-wire motors
  • Team player when team assistance is needed
  • Understands how to use multi meters, fox hound, circuit tracer
  • Demonstrate Craftsmanship and quality “no shortcuts”
  • Fills out all timesheets accurately
  • Understands 4-20
  • Understands 3-15
  • Calibrate LELs
  • Understand, support, and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) and all electrical safety procedures, and industry codes/standards
  • Bend and route tubing and rigid conduit
  • Maintain secondary instruments up to date with ISO requirements
  • SAP Annotate work orders efficiently to allow planner to view progress and completions, fills out SAP work order data daily.
  • Understands control valve functions and applications F/C,F/O,F/L
  • Understands ISO calibrations as well as documentation philosophy
  • Crimping following OEM recommendations for terminations in MCCs
  • Install high voltage terminations cold shrink boots; heat shrink and torque terminations
  • Understands interposing relays functions
  • Complete all assigned training by deadline

Qualifications/Experience Required

  • Candidate will be required to successfully complete extensive testing, drug/alcohol screen, physical requirement evolution and extended training period
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Codes
  • Proficient with electronic test instruments
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel & Word.
  • Candidate will be required to successfully complete a bench test
  • May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.
  • Knowledge and experience preparing drawings of electrical circuits
  • Knowledge and experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams
  • Knowledge and experience applying and interpreting results from common electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Advanced training in the field
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC, Variable Speed Drives, and Honeywell and/or Emerson DCS systems
  • Experience with high-voltage switchgear and substations
  • Knowledge of process controls and gas processing fundamentals
  • Refrigerant license and/or NFPA 70E Arc Flash Training


CERTIFICATION & LICENSES

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in electrical and instrumentation field work
  • NCCER certification is required but may be waived in lieu of 3 years or greater in a refinery/petrochemical facility or state license
  • Refrigerant license and/or NFPA 70E Arc Flash Training
  • Associates degree with an emphasis in Electrical/Mechanical skills, Industrial Electricity Instrumentation or equivalent


Competencies, Physical Capacity, Skills, And Abilities

  • Must respond to, and address, callouts and emergencies during and after regular business hours, including after dark hours, which require carrying a communication device. Overtime may be required and is anticipated.

  • Intermediate computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, operating systems, company software).
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals) Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Follow site safety requirements for the role and wear mandatory FRC and PPE (foot, head, ear, eye, hand, and fall protection) when inside plant environment or where directed by signage or procedure
  • Wear a SCBA and/or facemask respirator where directed by signage or where safety precautions are necessary
  • Read and understand technical documents and procedures in English
  • Specific vision abilities include near, far, and intermediate distances, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
  • Required to work at ground level, from ladders, and from heights greater than 250’ above grade on fixed platforms, mobile equipment platforms, and scaffolding
  • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders with and without a safety cage
  • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 24" manways
  • Must be capable of lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, crawling, walking, and climbing
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Work at computer for significant periods of time throughout the day
  • Required to reach overhead and at shoulder level with hands and arms
  • Must demonstrate fine and gross motor coordination including pinching, gripping, turning, and keyboarding of both hands
  • Move about uneven surfaces, including catwalks, deck grating, and wet and muddy areas
  • Work outside in all weather conditions walking up to ½ mile per job
  • Unit rotation
  • Understand, support, and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) and all electrical safety procedures, and industry codes/standards
  • Position is located in a chemical processing facility and requires overtime to meet plant needs, including alternative shifts as needed to meet facility needs
  • Position requires on-call duties, and the successful candidate must be able to respond 24/7, 100% of the time to plant emergencies on short notice, including nights, weekends, holidays, and while on-call
  • Complete all assigned training by deadline
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by offering suggestions for long-term solutions to minimize costs, improve reliability, and improve loss control performance
  • Keep thorough notes and records of work performed
  • SAP work orders updated daily
  • Support unit outages
