As a 1099 contracted interpreter, you will provide an invaluable service to community members by providing on-site interpretation services in a variety of settings. Baystate Interpreters, Inc., located in Gardner, MA provides professional interpreting and translation services in over 150 languages. Our accredited staff are well-versed in legal, medical, business and education interpreting services on a simultaneous and consecutive basis. All of our services are provided with the highest standard of professionalism, ethics and confidentiality.
Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must reside in Massachusetts
- Must be willing to travel within a 30-mile radius of your home to client locations
- Having completed a 60-hour Medical Interpreter Training Course (valid certificate from a reputable training institution) is preferred but not required
Responsibilities:
- Interpret between English and (applicable) languages.
- Maintain the appropriate tone of voice while observing cultural nuances
- Maintain professionalism through attitude and interpreting service standards
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
- Respond to the interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in English and (applicable) languages
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to remain calm and compassionate when dealing with difficult individuals and crisis situations
- Flexible availability
- Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation
- Understanding and implementation of HIPAA protocols
- All languages, experience and skill levels encouraged to apply
