JOB DESCRIPTION: BOOKKEEPER
CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE
This non-exempt position is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving all corporate accounting policies, payroll functions, and associated administrative programs, all of which entail diligence, procedural efficiency, and report generation; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs multiple accounting functions including: Accounts Payable (e.g., vendor payments, manual checks, bill payment schedule, memorized transaction instructions and list), Accounts Receivable (e.g., tracking customers and new jobs, prepare and record deposits, monitor lien releases, receive on-line payments, produce aging reports) and payroll (e.g., timecards, employee background checks, check distribution, garnishments, call-in and manual payroll procedures, and 401k contributions);
- Conducts banking procedures (e.g., computer/manual check writing, petty cash, reconciliations, remote deposits, and financial reports).
- Oversees billing procedures (e.g., instructions, pre-billing reports, memorized transactions, and data entry).
- Develops system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts.
- Defining bookkeeping policies and procedures.
- Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions;
- Balances subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries;
- Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries;
- Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance;
- Maintains historical records by filing documents;
- Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends;
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements;
- Records financial transactions using QuickBooks;
- Arranges payment of accounts;
- Prepares and sends invoices and receipts to debtors;
- Processes payroll and maintains employee records;
- Conducts bank reconciliations;
- Prepares a Business Activity Statement; verifies figures and reports for accuracy;
- Reports data irregularities to management;
- Produces balance sheets, income statements and other financial documents;
- Coordinates various insurance programs (e.g., auto, liability, health, dental, renewals, claims, and payments);
- Conducts data entry;
- Performs administrative functions (e.g., record keeping, filing, documentation);
- Completes and reviews various forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance;
- Uses Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment; and
- Provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, vendors, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An example of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position includes: at least three (3) years of professional experience involving accounting practices, QuickBooks, and organizational procedures.

Working Conditions: Work is conducted predominately in an office environment with associated noise, space, and computer screen exposure

Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of three months.
