GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Activity Assistant provides group and individual activities for the residents in Assisted Living. Duties involve personal contact with the varying resident population and a varied work schedule which may include weekends, evenings and holidays. The Activity Assistant oversees all publications for Assisted Living.

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 630 pm
Pay: $21.00/hr to $22.00/hr
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1) Coordinate and plan recreation activities; reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, re-motivation therapy, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, outings, special events, and on-on-one visits, as required.2) Plan and teach crafts, exercise and other classes as scheduled.
3) Collaborate with the Assisted Living management team on day-to-day problem solving as required.
4) Create and publish weekly and monthly calendar. Responsible for updating any changes.
5) Conduct one on one activities with the residents as required.
6) Implement and maintain Assisted Living new admission Protocol.
7) Update and maintain Daily Activity Attendance Binder.
8) Escort residents to and from activity programs as needed.
9) Create flyers and advertisements for events and outings.
10) Document tasks performed, follow established standards for charting accurately, timely, completely, and legibly.
11) Deliver personal mail and offer to assist residents as needed.
12) Facilitate meetings such as the Residents Association Meeting, i.e. assist with moving walkers, assist residents to open seating, ensure room temperature is comfortable and residents are able to hear the speakers, provide refreshments as required and take meeting notes.
13) Will assist with delivering food trays during meal times and assist residents to and from dining room.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to read, speak, write, understand and follow instructions in English in order to effectively communicate with staff and residents.
• Must possess excellent writing skills
• Enjoy working with the public and the elderly
• Experience working with older adults
• Must be able to work some weekends and holidays as required
• Basic computer skills; MS Office; Outlook, Word, Excel
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills, professionalism; display a courteous, friendly and helpful attitude; must demonstrate understanding, patience, tact and courtesy with residents, families, visitors and/or co-workers.
• Possess the ability and willingness to work as a team member and collaborate with all staff members.
•Must be fully vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine to work in the Assisted Living department; reasonable accommodation may be made for those with a religious or medical exemption. Will be subject to Covid-19 testing weekly if not vaccinated.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, walking and squatting. Lift up to 20 pounds to handle supplies.
May be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior.
