Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership : Read and/or lead the design and implementation of site-specific risk assessments conducted as part of remedial investigations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements under CERCLA, RCRA, or state programs; provide general technical support;
- Applies scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope
- Ability to advance business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients
- Provide ecological risk assessment expertise, develop technical approaches, and interact with clients and regulatory agencies
- Risk Assessment : Identify, evaluate, and document potential environmental risks associated with hazardous substances, pollutants, and contaminants on DoD sites; develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate identified risks;
- Preparation of planning documents, evaluation reports, and other technical documents summarizing toxicological risk assessment procedures and results
- Perform statistical evaluations, exposure and toxicity assessments, and risk characterization for projects governed by state and federal programs
- Manage a variety of toxicological risk assessment projects with varying levels of complexity and size, manage scope, schedule, and budget for toxicological risk assessment projects
- Project Management : Oversee project planning, execution, and completion; ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget; prepare and present project reports to stakeholders; this includes providing support to multiple projects simultaneously
- Data Analysis : Conduct detailed analysis of site data, including historical records, site inspections, and environmental sampling results; effectively communicate findings and recommendations to key stakeholders, to include completing/supporting risk assessments; Data management and statistical analysis; data preparation and management such as organizing and summarizing environmental data and their sources
- Compliance and Audits : Ensure project activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal standards; implement and uphold rigorous quality assurance processes to maintain the highest standards in risk assessment methodologies and reporting
- Stakeholder Collaboration : Liaise with DoD officials, regulatory agencies, contractors, and community representatives to facilitate project progress and address any concerns; participate in public meetings and provide technical input as needed
- Training and Development : Provide training and support to team members on risk assessment processes, CERCLA guidelines, and best practices; stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and emerging issues related to risk assessment, particularly as it relates to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); participate in technical conferences or work groups to advance novel approaches and the practice of ecological risk assessment; Provide mentoring, guidance, and coaching to new or less experienced staff, and recruit and develop junior risk assessment scientists
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
- Certification: Relevant certifications (e.g., PE, PMP, CIH, CSP) are preferred

- Software: Proficiency using MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and environmental risk assessment tools and software
- Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously
- Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years in risk assessment, project management, and technical leadership roles and experience working with CERCLA and DoD regulations, including DoD Risk Assessment and CERCLA/EPA Guidance Documents (e.g., RAGs, etc.) is required
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college or university is required
