Location: Kansas City, Missouri area

Department: Crisis Services

Employment Type: Full-time

Shift: Monday-Friday (8:00am – 5:00pm CST)

As a Crisis Services Supervisor you will oversee the provision of emergency response services to individuals in distress, typically working in a crisis hotline or mobile crisis unit setting. Key responsibilities include managing and training staff, ensuring effective delivery of crisis intervention and counseling services, monitoring service quality, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of best practices and relevant legislation, liaising with external partners such as law enforcement and healthcare providers, handling complex cases, and administering day-to-day operations while promoting a safe and supportive environment for both employees and those seeking help. Additionally, you may be tasked with budgeting, fundraising, and advocacy efforts aimed at raising awareness about mental health issues and supporting ongoing improvements within the crisis services field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management: The supervisor is responsible for managing and supervising staff members, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating their performance. They ensure that staff members have the necessary skills and resources to perform their duties effectively.
  • Program Development and Implementation: The supervisor develops and implements programs and services that meet the needs of clients. This includes creating policies and procedures, developing training materials, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Client Services: The supervisor ensures that clients receive high-quality services that meet their needs. This involves assessing client needs, providing direct services when necessary, and coordinating referrals to other agencies or service providers.
  • Risk Management: The supervisor is responsible for identifying potential risks and taking steps to mitigate them. This includes implementing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring that all staff members follow established policies and procedures.
  • Quality Assurance: The supervisor monitors the quality of services provided by the crisis center and takes steps to improve them. This involves collecting data, analyzing outcomes, and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Community Outreach: The supervisor represents the crisis center in the community and builds relationships with stakeholders. This involves attending community events, giving presentations, and collaborating with other organizations to address common goals.
  • Administration: The supervisor manages the administrative functions of the crisis center, including budgeting, financial management, grant writing, and reporting. They ensure that the crisis center operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Compliance: The supervisor ensures that the crisis center complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards. This includes maintaining accurate records, following confidentiality guidelines, and adhering to ethical principles.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Requires a master’s degree or higher in psychology, social work, counseling or related behavioral health field and be an experienced, qualified mental health professional
  • Professional license preferred (PLPC, LPC, LMSW, or LCSW)
  • Establish effective relationships via telephone and personal contacts.
  • Able to communicate effectively before community groups, employees of the organization, and client’s family members/natural supports.
  • Must complete CPI, First Aid, and CPR certifications
  • Adaptability (ability to perform effectively in the face of changing job demands)
  • Initiative (taking necessary and appropriate action on one’s own)
  • Prior to be removed from probationary status, must demonstrate competencies in the required areas of crisis intervention, safety and legal issues, working with law enforcement.
