Summary of Responsibilities:
- In support of the Senior Bankers the Senior Associate will be responsible for performing comprehensive financial analysis to make recommendations on optimal balance sheet and alternative capital structure to prospective and existing clients.
- The candidate is required an in-depth knowledge of Liability Management from origination to execution of strategic mandates for a multitude of debt issuers ranging from Corporates, Financial Institutions, and Sovereign across all BBVA geographies. The Liability Management Group sits at the intersection of Capital Markets, Advisory and Syndicate helping issuers create more efficient capital structures.
- The Senior Associate must be versed with global banking regulations and market execution practices
The team works closely with client coverage, Rating Advisory, ECM, DCM and M&A in executing its mandate. In addition to the capital structure advice provided, the team also work closely with clients on the optimization of their debt management.
The Senior Associate will support relationship management in close coordination with product and coverage teams within the bank globally.
Major/Essential Job Duties:
- Assisting the team in the client dialogue with financial institutions, including banks, insurance companies, asset managers, as it relates to balance sheet and ratings optimization
- Active interaction with internal teams (coverage, DCM, risk, legal and products) to provide holistic and cross-product advice to clients
- Ability to develop trusted advisor relationships with both existing clients and prospects in the financial sector
- Expertise is pertinent regulatory capital requirements, solvency regulations, and rating agency methodologies
- Manage the day-to-day execution process of transactions under the supervision of a senior team member
- Building and manage complex financial models and real live database
- Build and develop complex financial models to measure capital and debt efficiency - Perform Cash flow modelling and bond economics, including NPV
Skills, knowledge, and abilities/competencies:
This role is very much for a candidate with a strong excel modelling background with working knowledge of Bloomberg, looking to expand their experience on the sell side whilst focusing on debt products.
In addition to strong interpersonal and communications skills the role requires advanced quantitative
- Strong analytical skills.
- Understanding of Python, macros/VBA
- Interest and ability in bond math and relevant cash flow analysis including corporate finance and rates
- 2 years of previous experience at Investment Bank, Financial Start-up, Rating Agency related to financial institution capital structures, funding and Treasury
- Advanced level knowledge of banks, insurance companies, and other financial institution fundamentals
- Rating agency methodologies
- Knowledge of fixed income instruments and multi-currency pricing for both New Issues and outstanding Debt
- Ability to work with cross-functional and cross-geographic teams with understanding of hard and soft currency and local jurisdictions

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $130,000 to $145,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
