Location : Windfall, IN
Duration : 12 Months Contract and Strong possibility for extension
Pay rate : $17.50 per hour on W2
Shift : 7 : 30 AM - 4 : 00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Estimated Start Date : March 17, 2025
Job Description :
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Research Assistant to join our team at the Windfall, IN multi-crop research station. This position involves a combination of indoor and outdoor tasks, including fieldwork and sample processing. The ideal candidate should be able to follow instructions, work well with a team, and be comfortable working in various weather conditions. Tasks may vary daily and require adaptability in a fast-paced research environment.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Outdoor work : Heat, mud, dust - hands on work
- Reliable, follows instructions, Safety conscious
- Basic computer, iPad skills
- Day to Day : Placing wooden garden stakes in the fields, pulling samples from Wheat fields & loading into bags; Pull weeds in Field; Plant Sampling (cut leaves & ears and place into bin to take samples); cross pollinations. Inside Work = Take Inventory, Computer work : scanning bar codes
- Tasks can change day to day and be fast paced.
PPE : we supply all PPE that would be needed except for Steel Toed Boots, which are only required for certain work.
They most likely would not need those right away, and we would reimburse them if we tell them to go get some or order them. It is good for them to be prepared to be out in the field during all conditions (except Storms), hot, dry, muddy, rainy, etc

Responsibilities :
As with the Field and Processing Worker, can be responsible for performing a wide range of tasks or a specific task depending on the stage of the seasonal research program. Tasks may include : Field research operations related to planting, thinning, weeding, pollinations and sample harvest. Sample processing operations including preparation of supplies, sorting, scanning, weighing, preparation for shipping and seed packaging. General facility operations including general clean-up, organization of samples and supplies, and other routine tasks as they arise. The Research Assistant may also perform additional tasks as requested by the supervising Field Technician.
