This role involves providing expert advisory, transactional, and litigation services for a variety of clients, including public agencies, agricultural stakeholders, and tribal interests. The ideal candidate will have experience handling complex legal matters in the environmental and water law sectors, with an emphasis on public sector law.Duties : Represent clients in environmental and water law matters, providing legal counsel and support across a range of advisory, transactional, and litigation services.Assist with the preparation of discovery and pleadings for litigation or adversarial proceedings, particularly at state administrative agencies like the State Water Resources Control Board.Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on environmental and water law issues, adhering to strict timelines.Draft client memorandums, legal motions, and documents for law and motion work in adversarial proceedings.Prepare and respond to written discovery with minimal supervision and oversight.Manage client relationships with professionalism, offering legal guidance and strategic advice on environmental and / or water law issues.Take ownership of cases, develop a plan of action, and drive matters to resolution.Collaborate with clients and colleagues to identify and execute strategic solutions.Requirements : Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental and / or water law, with a focus on serving public or private clients.Experience working with public sector clients, such as cities, counties, or special districts, and a solid understanding of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflict of Interest laws.Proven track record of assisting in discovery preparation and litigation processes, particularly before state agencies.Strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare comprehensive legal documents and client reports.Ability to work independently while managing multiple matters with limited oversight.Proficiency in managing client interactions with professionalism and strategic foresight.Ability to take initiative, demonstrate a high level of judgment, and work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.Education : Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.Certifications : Licensed to practice law in the state of California.Skills : Expertise in environmental and water law.Knowledge of public sector law and regulations.Strong research and legal writing abilities.Client management and relationship-building skills.Ability to work autonomously and within a team.Exceptional organizational and time management skills.Clear, concise, and persuasive communication skills.Job Location : Sacramento, CABenefits : Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plan options, and paid time off.
