Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician will perform testing for customer technical support and assist chemists in research & development activity. Industry-specific training will be provided, but a background in laboratory work is required. This position requires the ability to work independently and manage multiple long-term projects simultaneously with minimal supervision. Organization, attention to detail and time management are essential for success. The work done includes a combination of routine analysis and investigation of unknown issues. The laboratory technician is also responsible for writing reports and communicating with our sales team and customers.

Essential Responsibilities and duties

Essential functions of the Laboratory Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Operation of analytical equipment (e.g. XRF, AAS, IC, FTIR, SEM)
  • Perform accelerated chamber testing on painted parts
  • Follow standard ASTM, ISO, and AAMA test methods
  • Assisting Chemists in research & development activities
  • Preparation of samples and standards
  • Calibration and maintenance of equipment and instruments
  • Following health and safety guidelines
  • Maintaining clear and accurate records in the form of a laboratory notebook
  • Writing clear and concise lab reports
  • Maintaining an orderly workspace


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Good analytical skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office)


Education/Experience

  • Degree in chemistry or a related field (preferred) or prior work experience
  • Laboratory experience & safety awareness required
  • Experience following standard test methods (ASTM, ISO, etc.) required
  • Operation of analytical equipment (e.g. XRF, AAS, IC, FTIR, SEM) highly preferred
  • Operation of accelerated weathering chambers (Salt Spray, Prohesion, etc.) preferred
  • Driver's license


Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Majority of the work will be conducted in our onsite laboratory, where hazardous chemicals and equipment are utilized.
  • This position routinely uses various types of laboratory testing and analysis equipment as well as standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • Travel requirements: Potential opportunity to travel to client sites.
