Key Responsibilities:

Vacuum Excavation Operations:

• Operate vacuum excavation equipment (e.g., vac trucks) to safely excavate and expose underground utilities, including fiber optic cables and conduits, for telecommunications projects.
• Conduct pre-operation checks and ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
• Ensure the vac truck is properly loaded, maintained, and cleaned after each use.
• Monitor excavation depth and accuracy, ensuring safe excavation practices are followed to avoid damage to existing utilities.

Team Collaboration & Job Site Support:

• Work closely with the crew to safely expose utilities and provide assistance with other tasks as needed.
• Transport equipment, tools, and materials to and from job sites.
• Maintain a clean and organized job site, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored.
• Assist in other job site tasks such as digging, lifting, and material handling when necessary.

Safety & Compliance:

• Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA regulations.
• Conduct safety checks to ensure job site conditions are safe for crew members and other personnel.
• Identify hazards and take proactive steps to prevent accidents or unsafe working conditions.
• Participate in daily safety briefings and report any safety concerns or issues to the supervisor.

Equipment Maintenance & Reporting:

• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on vac equipment, reporting any issues to the maintenance team.
• Keep detailed records of daily activities, including equipment use, job progress, and safety compliance.
• Ensure proper disposal of materials collected during excavation in accordance with company policies.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating vacuum excavation equipment, preferably in telecommunications or construction.
  • Experience with utility locating and working around underground utilities is a plus.
• Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of excavation and safety protocols.
  • Ability to operate and maintain vacuum excavation equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in confined spaces when required.
