Position Overview
The Director of P&C Claims oversees BCS's Property and Casualty claims portfolio, focusing on Professional Liability, Cyber Liability, and Travel insurance products. This role ensures effective claims management, profitability, and strategic alignment with emerging industry trends. The Director collaborates with internal teams—Claims, Underwriting, Product Development, Legal, Actuarial—and external partners like Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), reinsurers, and brokers. Responsibilities include strategic claims handling, data analysis for trend identification, and proactive product adjustments.
This position reports directly to the Head of Property and Casualty, and maintains dotted-line relationships with other key departments.
Essential Elements
- Claims Portfolio Management: Oversee the profitability and effectiveness of BCS's P&C claims portfolio, ensuring strategic claims handling, reserve adequacy, and favorable financial outcomes.
- Leadership and Coordination: Provide counsel to internal claims committee and coordinate with TPAs and external counsel to ensure efficient, accurate, and client-focused claim resolutions.
- Data Analysis and Strategy: Analyze claims data to identify emerging trends, collaborating with Underwriting and Product Development to recommend product adjustments and risk mitigation strategies.
- Stakeholder Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with insureds, administrators, reinsurers, and brokers to foster trust, collaboration, and support profitable growth.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with claims practices, litigation management, and regulatory developments across multiple U.S. jurisdictions, particularly in Professional Liability, Cyber, and Travel lines.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Actuarial, Claims, and Data Governance teams to enhance data analytics, claims management, improve reserve accuracy, and boost operational efficiency.
- Strategic Contribution: Actively participate in internal strategic discussions and cross-functional projects to enhance product competitiveness and profitability
Requirements
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field, or commensurate experience required
- Master’s degree (MBA) or juris doctorate (JD) preferred
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Claims (AIC), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years claims handling and management required
- Experience with professional liability and cyber lines preferred
- Experience managing external working relationships with distribution partners, brokers and accounts on Ancillary products required
Skills
- In-depth knowledge of claims best practices, coverage evaluation, litigation management, and negotiation strategies.
- Proven ability to manage a claims portfolio strategically, balancing financial considerations and collaborating effectively with various stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex claims data and product development decisions.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills within a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
