What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editor (Maternity Leave Coverage) position at BDG?
Bustle Digital Group (“BDG”) is seeking an Editor to join the Bustle and Elite Daily teams on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave beginning in mid-May.
The Editor will be the editorial lead for Bustle’s Style vertical and Elite Daily’s Experiences (Lifestyle) vertical, working closely with senior leadership. The Editor will exhibit a strong editorial judgment and set the direction for Bustle’s Style team and Elite Daily’s Experiences team. They’ll also be responsible for contributing to big brand moments and projects (profiles, Q&As, packages/issues, etc).
The editor should be experienced in working across departments and show ease when working collaboratively with writers on angles and edits. They should have experience managing an internal team of writers. They will also have experience fielding internal story pitches, and managing news and feature assignments from start to finish.
They should be comfortable providing written and verbal feedback that is clear, concise, and constructive. The editor should thrive independently and as part of a team, be able to juggle multiple projects, and have experience planning and maintaining an editorial calendar.
- Use internal analytics, SEO tools, social insights, and trends to identify new opportunities across platforms, working alongside senior leadership
- Manage full-time writers
- Provide strategic direction to writers on assignments, angles, and story structure
- Work collaboratively across departments to identify coverage opportunities
- Independently lead their verticals
- 5-8 years of experience assigning and editing news and evergreen stories, with at least 3 years of management experience
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills
- Be extremely detail-oriented with an ability to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities
- Familiarity with SEO best practices, plus experience analyzing content
- Ability to multitask and adapt quickly
- Sound editorial skills and editorial judgment
- Ability to give and receive feedback
- Keep a finger on the pulse of all things industry via social media, brand relationships, active research, press releases, and exclusive announcements via your professional network
