What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern position at BDI BRIDGE DIAGNOSTICS?
What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a summer intern to help support our growing business. We offer the opportunity to work with a dynamic team on the evaluation of structures through diagnostic load testing, structural monitoring, nondestructive evaluation (NDT/NDE), and engineering services. Our 10-week program is designed to provide students and recent graduates with hands-on field experience, unique travel opportunities, and real-life application of the latest technology.
What You’ll Do:
Engineering Tasks
- Exposure to aspects of the various project types, supporting technicians and engineers in design, field implementation, analysis, and reporting.
- Review and understand instrumentation project plans and testing documents to be able to execute overall project requirements and scope.
- Assist with making engineering decisions while on job sites to ensure a safe and effective field deployment.
- Use the latest technology from our in-house SOUNDAR to Ground Penetrating Radar. Learn how to collect, refine, analyze, and present data to clients.
- Update documents and photos upon project completion and provide lessons learned to the team.
On-Site Installation/Project Support
- Gain hands-on experience in installing strain gauges, sensors, and data loggers. Take your experience to the next level through data collection, analysis, and systems testing.
- On-site training with the various technologies used for structural evaluation including sensor installation, data acquisition, and various NDE technologies.
- Perform real time data collection and long-term system installations.
- Work directly with project managers on project coordination, planning, and logistics. Follow and execute project plans on budget and on time.
- Get on the production floor and learn how build and test instruments so they are ready for installation.
- Consistently evaluate processes and procedures and recommend cost-saving ideas.
- Review or complete client facing documentation (calibration sheets, leaflet, etc.).

Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
- Experience or willingness to learn safe operation of power tools and testing equipment.
- Willingness to work outside in conditions including extreme heights (up to 200 ft), working near/over water, and various weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel across multiple states to conduct fieldwork (approximately 50%).
Compensation:
- Salary Range: $24 - $26 per hour and overtime eligible
