Overview
The Development Director will lead fundraising activities to support Beaches Habitat for Humanity’s strategic plan and fundraising goals to grow revenue and raise awareness for the organization. The Development Director, in partnership with the President & CEO, will manage all components of the fundraising plans including (but not limited to) annual giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation grants, major individual and corporate gifts and sponsorships, and special fundraising events.
To be successful, the Development Director must be a confident, collaborative, hands-on, and results-oriented leader who can articulate clear and compelling cases for support that ensures the growth and vitality of Beaches Habitat for Humanity. The successful candidate will enjoy meeting face-to-face with donors to share this exciting work and to solicit, close and steward their financial support.

Fund Development
- Lead the development and implementation of fundraising strategies in collaboration with leadership.
- Identify and evaluate funding sources. Develop plans for outreach to new funding sources.
- Collaborate with leadership on all donor communications, including funding proposals, direct mail appeals, newsletters, and other fundraising support.
- Work with the President & CEO to cultivate and secure major gifts and planned giving.
- Build relationships with current and prospective donors. Develop donor recognition and appreciation programs.
- Develop new partnerships and maintain current relationships with faith communities, businesses, and civic organizations.
- Administer the Community Contribution Tax Credit Program, securing sponsors and ensuring compliance.
- Seek out and participate in public speaking and outreach opportunities to share information about Beaches Habitat for Humanity’s goals and impact in the community.
- Oversee the Grant Specialist’s research, development and submission of grant applications and provide support for data collection, tracking, and reporting for approved grants.
Event Planning
- Plan and implement all fundraising events, including Beach Bash and CEO Build.
- Coordinate event logistics, budgets, vendors, and volunteer recruitment.
- Ensure all event donors and sponsors receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
- Create engagement opportunities to increase support from businesses and individuals.
- Secure and manage corporate sponsorships.
Management and Office Administration
- Maintain and oversee donor database, ensuring accurate gift recording and acknowledgment.
- Manage department budget and prepare financial reports.
- Prepare for and implement the requirements of Habitat for Humanity’s Collaborative Fundraising Model, ensuring alignment with organizational fundraising strategies.
- Prepare regular reports evaluating fundraising efforts, including analyses aligning fundraising activities with strategic plan goals. Present findings and recommendations to the board of directors.
- Recruit, support, and supervise volunteers and interns in the Development Department.
- Represent Beaches Habitat professionally and foster positive relationships with stakeholders.
Supervisory Responsibility: Grant Specialist; AmeriCorps VISTA Resource Development Coordinator; Special Event Interns
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in non-profit development, fundraising, and/or public relations.
- Record of continually increasing responsibilities with measurable results.

Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with regular in-person and virtual meetings.
- Frequent local travel to meet with donors, donor prospects, and community partners.
- Attendance at networking events, speaking engagements, and fundraising activities, often during evenings and weekends.
- Fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Event planning and implementation, requiring coordination with staff, volunteers, and vendors.
Physical requirements
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods.
- Frequent use of a computer, phone, and other standard office equipment.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of event materials (up to 25 lbs).
- Ability to move throughout event venues, including engaging with attendees for several hours at a time.
- Comfortable driving to off-site meetings and events.
Expected Hours of Work: The primary schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm
