What does the Housekeeper do? (including but not limited to) The Housekeeper is responsible for ensuring a clean, hygienic, and safe environment within the residential psychiatric facility. This includes performing routine cleaning duties, maintaining the facility’s hygiene standards, and ensuring that all areas are sanitized in accordance with health and safety regulations. The role also involves interacting with patients and staff supportive manner, fostering a positive and comfortable environment for healing.
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize patient rooms, common areas, restrooms, and staff offices.
- Perform deep cleaning in high-touch areas, such as doorknobs, light switches, and handrails.
- Regularly wash windows, floors, and surfaces to ensure the facility is free of dirt, dust, and bacteria.
- Change bed linens and towels as needed, ensuring patient rooms are always tidy and prepared.
- Collect, sort, and wash linens, bedding, towels, and patient clothing.
- Ensure all laundry is washed, dried, and folded in a timely manner.
- Properly dispose of medical waste and other waste in accordance with facility protocols.
- Ensure that trash bins are emptied regularly, and that waste is appropriately sorted.
- Ensure that all cleaning equipment and chemicals are safely stored and properly used.
- Report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or areas requiring maintenance to supervisors.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, non-toxic environment by adhering to infection control guidelines.
- Maintain a friendly and respectful attitude when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors.
- Respond to special requests from patients or staff as needed, within the scope of the housekeeping role.
- Be aware of the mental health needs of patients and be sensitive to creating a calm, non-stressful environment.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience preferred, especially in healthcare or psychiatric settings.
Physical Demands:
This job requires employees to have a full range of physical capabilities, including the ability to handle and lift patients, demonstrate manual and finger dexterity, and maintain good eye-hand coordination. Employees must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift and carry items up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing within the normal range are also required.
