Beacon College Prep opened in 2020 with two kindergarten and one first-grade class in the Raleigh area of Memphis and has since grown to educate 360 scholars in grades K-5. The school was founded on the belief that all students, regardless of their previous education or the zip code they were born into, can learn and achieve at high levels when held to the highest expectations. Job Description: The Music Teacher at Beacon College Prep will play a vital role in building a music program that inspires creativity, joy, and discipline through music education. This teacher will design and deliver dynamic music lessons, support whole-child development, and contribute to a strong and joyful school culture rooted in high expectations and scholar achievement.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based music instruction to scholars in grades K–5.
- Teach foundational music concepts including rhythm, pitch, tempo, melody, harmony, and expression.
- Expose scholars to a variety of musical genres, cultures, and instruments.
- Incorporate singing, movement, and instrument play to enhance learning and engagement.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages scholar participation, joy, and excellence in music.
- Design and lead scholar performances (e.g., concerts, family events, community assemblies).
- Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to integrate music into school-wide events and academic themes.
- Maintain high behavioral and academic expectations rooted in love, consistency, and respect.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture aligned to Beacon’s values.
- Uphold all school policies, systems, and expectations with consistency and professionalism.
- Upholds a values-based approach to maintain a positive culture among scholars and staff
- Builds strong relationships with parents and scholars
- Reinforces behavioral and operational systems across all classrooms and school spaces
- Eagerly participates and engages in weekly individual coaching meetings, weekly Professional Development, and Summer Professional Development with a positive attitude and growth mindset
- Assists with schoolwide transitions and routines
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor degree is required (preferably in Music Education)
- Valid State Certification
- Experience in an urban public school is preferred but not required
