Job Function/Purpose:

The Lead Technician is the most advanced skilled-level field position within Beacon Communications Operations Department. The Lead Technician provides advanced skilled/certified installation service on projects including Healthcare, Education, Security, Audio-Visual, Voice/Data, and other technologies which may be provided by Beacon Communications. The salary range for this role is between $30 - $35 per hour, commensurate with relevant education and experience.

This position provides Beacon Communications with advanced certification-level, technical employees.

Lead Technician employees have demonstrated a thorough competency in field installation techniques, and a thorough understanding of Beacon Communications standards and methodology. Lead Technician is factory certified on two (2) or more systems, with competency on multiple applications, is cross-trained, and participates in on call rotation.

The Lead Technician has achieved factory certification on two (2) or more systems provided by Beacon Communications in Healthcare, Education, Security, Audio-Visual, and other technologies. This position will be responsible for frequent supervisory duties at the discretion of the Project Manager.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist Project Manager and Coordination Manager with accomplishing daily tasks essential to timely and scheduled completion of projects.
  • Supervise installers in completion of daily tasks as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Demonstrate ability to accomplish assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Demonstrate strong installation methodology in wire pull, device installation, wire pathing, and other tasks as they are assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate as-builts.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of systems upon which factory certification is achieved.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of Beacon Communications policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide accurate ADP time entry to Coordination Manager according to Beacon Communications policies.
  • Overnight travel, as necessary.
  • Provide daily reports to Project Managers on work completed and issues related to project completion.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Beacon projects and focus on continued skill development in all areas.
  • Arrive for work on time, dressed in a professional manner acceptable for the work to be performed.
  • Other leadership duties as assigned.
  • Thorough understanding of project scope and ability to understand potential change order opportunities
  • Realizing that customer relations and customer satisfaction is our primary goal, perform in a professional manner demonstrating courtesy and respect to Beacon customers.
  • Tools will be provided to Lead Technicians on an as needed basis. Lead Technician will be responsible for providing reasonable care in protecting and maintaining tools. Cost of repair or replacement for tools that are lost or damaged due to negligence will be deducted from Lead Technicians pay at the sole discretion of Beacon Management.
  • Demonstrate effective troubleshooting and problem isolation skills.
  • Identify installation or schedule challenges, and communicate them to Project Manager.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers in stressful environments.
  • Thoroughly document all service calls in a timely and professional manner to Service Coordinator.
  • Administer weekly safety talks to assigned crew and submit log to the Coordination Manager.

Supervision:

  • Project related activities will be performed under the supervision of the assigned Project Manager.
  • Service related activities will be performed under the supervision of the Service Coordinator or Service Manager.
  • All activities will be performed under the direct, or indirect, supervision of the Division Manager.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Supervision of installer and technician activities as assigned by Project Manager.

Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge:
    • Superior knowledge and understanding of low-voltage related installation considerations and techniques.
    • Factory certification on two (2) or more Beacon Communications system.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with multiple types of end-user customers.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in difficult situations with employees with various personalities and emotions.
    • Must understand implicit instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people. Is frequently called upon to handle difficult situations and be held accountable for project outcomes.
    • Strong team player
    • Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner.
  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or approved equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Five years experience in Low-voltage installation is desirable.

Work Environment

  • Work environment can be an office environment, medical facility, educational facility, or a customer site under construction, renovation or warehouse space.
  • Job sites will have a variety of environmental factors including but not limited to noise, dust, and temperature changes. PPE (personal protective equipment) is to be worn under all appropriate conditions.
  • Employee must have capability to transfer job sites at managements discretion.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to read blue prints and construction drawings.
  • Ability to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner.
  • Requires sitting, prolonged standing, walking, handling, gripping, pushing, pulling, and reaching over head with force. Also requires stooping, crouching, crawling on knees and work along floors/sub floors.
  • Ability to physically transport ladders up to 12 feet in height and lift ladders off of vehicle roof racks. Must be willing and able to climb and stand on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, sometimes overhead.
  • Ability to use power actuated hand tools, i.e., hammers, drills, saws.
  • Ability to see a full spectrum of color for correct wire identification.
  • Maintain a clear background check in order to satisfy customer jobsite badging requirements.
  • Willing to submit to all vaccinations and screening tests required for customer jobsite badging protocol.
  • Maintain a clear drug and alcohol screening protocol.
  • Maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Ability to navigate all types of construction sites.
  • 20-30% travel requirement in Rocky Mountain region, as needed.
  • Holds an OSHA 10 or higher certification as well as thorough knowledge of guidelines covering the NEC and TIA/EIA standards.
