JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate and underwrite new loan applications by conducting in-depth financial analysis (balance sheets, cash flow, income statements, tax returns) and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Conduct comprehensive credit risk assessments, identifying potential borrower risks and recommending mitigation strategies aligned with our lending policies.
- Prepare detailed credit memos with financial analysis and recommendations for approval by management or the credit committee.
- Engage directly with small business clients to guide them through the underwriting process, clarify documentation requirements, and provide technical assistance as needed.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Programs, Small Business Advisory, MIS) and external partners to deliver consistent borrower support and produce regulatory and performance reports.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of small business market conditions, regulatory changes, and economic trends impacting credit decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2-3 years of experience in credit analysis or underwriting, ideally in small business lending or a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement interpretation, and cash flow analysis.
- Exceptional analytical and risk assessment skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools; ability to manage data and generate actionable insights.
