TITLE: Lead Preschool Teacher SALARY: $18-$22/hr as determined by schooling degrees, certificates, and years of experience REPORTS TO: Program Director/Administrator, Pastor of Parish, Superintendent of Catholic Schools BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The primary function of a lead teacher is to deliver the assigned general and religious curriculum in multiple ways that increase student learning and achievement. The lead teacher is responsible for implementing accommodations necessary for the student to access the curriculum and successfully integrate throughout the school day. Teachers are responsible for communicating daily with parents as well as communicating any concerns or needs of assistance with the Director as soon as possible. All staff are responsible for modeling and upholding Catholic faith values and practices within the work environment and during any time outside of regular school hours when present at any special events representing the Beacon of Light Preschool. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Teaches preschool students academic, social, and motor skills through the delivery of the provided curriculum. -Prepares class objectives and outlines that align with the approved curriculum. -Prepares, administers, and analyzes student daily activities and assessments. -Utilizes information from assessments in developing lessons. -Instructs students on rules of conduct and expected behaviors. -Manages his/her class as well as other students wherever those students may be located on or off campus events. -Identifies students with academic issues and refers those students to program director and appropriate service providers. -Regularly informs parents or guardians of their students academic performance and behavior. -Maintains records, attendance, and progress reports as required by school. -Plans, organizes, and delivers differentiated instruction in an appropriate manner consistent with curriculum -Provides timely feedback to students, parents, and guardians on evaluations. -Use appropriate techniques and strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills. -Strives to maintain a learning environment that is both physically and emotionally safe. -Effectively and regularly communicates with fellow staff members and school administration. -Works respectfully and cooperatively with fellow staff members and school administration. -Provides religious instruction and models behavior as determined by the pastor and director. -Other duties as assigned by the pastor, school administration or superintendent of schools. -Assist in the communication and enforcement of federal and state laws and regulations as well as school policies and procedures. -Works cooperatively with school administration, staff, and service providers. -Respects students, parents, guardians and community. -Assists parents with questions and concerns. -Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and guardians. -Respects and embraces students of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Operations -Assist in the protection of students and property. -Assists Director in fire and other emergency drills. -Assists the Director in the management of students e.g. arrival, dismissal, recess, etc. Professional -Maintains a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality and a strong work ethic. -Participates in ongoing professional development -Keeps certifications up to date -Seeks current best-practices utilized in educational settings -Completes professional development throughout the year and applies learning to the everyday classroom and work as applicable REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AS DETERMINED BY EEC. ADA & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must be able to stand, crouch, and bend over for a long period of time at intervals throughout the day. Must be able to get on the floor with students to play, teach, and explore Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants. Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, newsletters, schedules, manuals, invoices, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, procedures, charts, surveys, handbooks, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently to students, parents, and staff Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Interpersonal: Requires the ability to respectfully communicate with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone and through email. Promotion Opportunities Staff are eligible for promotion by meeting EEC requirements for Lead Teacher and/or Director level license. It is the responsibility of the teacher candidate employee to meet the requirements for each level of license and applying for said level through EEC. Teacher level is determined upon review and verification by EEC once completed work experience and education meets the requirements to hold a Teacher Qualification certification for positions as a Lead Teacher or Director in EEC-licensed group child care programs.
