The Financial Counselor is responsible for contacting patients to assure accuracy of patient’s account, with the goal of bringing resolution by obtaining accurate and timely collection of payments. This individual also will follow-up on and track the progress of all liability and worker’s compensation accounts, ensuring timely follow-up and payment. This individual will evaluate and resolve all open issues with patient’s account, ensuring timely payment from patients and applicable insurance companies.

Type : Full-Time

Schedule : Monday-Thursday 8-4 : 30 and Friday 8-4

Location : Fishers, IN

Responsibilities :

  • Provide daily list of scheduled patients with patient responsibility balances at predetermined levels to appropriate clinical staff at the start of the day.
  • Evaluate and process work log of accounts daily, working accounts completely and accurately, following through to obtain maximum payment.
  • Meet with all fracture care patients, providing counseling on charges, running insurance benefits, collecting on balances or setting up payment plans as defined by departmental procedures.
  • Meet with Cash Only and Liability patients face-to-face, communicating clearly and compassionately to explain payment options and ensure timely collection. Respond quickly to all patient account phone line calls, to patient arrival calls, and conduct room call visits as necessary.
  • Complete all required documentation to provide a solid, accurate and up-to-date patient record, ensuring timely communication / information for the Patient Accounts team.
  • Collect outstanding balances for the Practice and CIO Surgery Center.
  • Communicate and explain the Care Credit program to patients as needed, process applications and run payments for Care Credit.
  • Provide cost estimates for procedures and make collection calls as assigned.
  • Process mail returns, updating and correcting contact information to ensure timely collections.
  • Maintain a strong focus on working well with fellow team members, actively backing each other and assisting others as needed.
  • Place a high priority on and maintain strict patient confidentiality in all situations.
  • Attend and participate in required staff meetings and educational meetings as assigned.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Education :

Minimum high school diploma or GED required. Two to four years’ experience in this or a related field required. Additional applicable education may be substituted for one year of work experience. Previous experience in a clinical environment preferred. Previous customer service experience is required.

Work Environment :

Standard work environment is an office setting. Work requires sitting for long periods of time. Position requires viewing and typing on a computer for long periods. Occasionally bending, lifting, and reaching required to deal with files, paper, supplies, etc., including lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.) regularly. Vision must be correctable to 20 / 20. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and to interact directly with employees. Regularly interacts with staff, physicians, business associates, and the public, which may involve dealing with angry or upset people.
