Description
The Yard Technician is responsible for safely maintaining and inspecting yard equipment to ensure consistent operation. This role also involves general equipment appearance and maintenance, identifying and communicating any quality, environmental, or production-related concerns, and preparing the yard for production while assisting maintenance with general equipment upkeep.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a liaison between Operations and Maintenance for post-operation tasks :
- During production : Focus on operational efficiency.
- During downtime : Act as the "eyes and ears" for maintenance by identifying and communicating potential servicing needs
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient overall operations and provide excellent customer service.
- Cover breaks, vacation, or sick days for other team members as needed.
- Assist with late-arriving trucks and coordinate yard activities to maintain efficiency.
- Perform break-ins with equipment, ensuring safe operation.
- Sweep roads and maintain a clean and organized working environment in the yard.
- Empty bins under and around the shredder as part of routine operations.
- Prepare the yard for upcoming production.
- Assist Heavy Equipment Operators (HEOs).
- Perform all pre-inspection checks and monitor equipment during operation. Perform troubleshooting and notify management of malfunctions.
- Prepare and complete all required operating documents and reports.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues on equipment such as conveyors, bearings, belts, and framework using tools such as welders, torches, plasma torches, and other fabricating tools.
- Complete work orders and inspections on operations and processing equipment, including (but not limited to) : compressors, conveyors, shredders, screens, electric motors, electric tools, and air tools.
- Willing to work flexible hours (outside normal business hours) when required.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
