Estimator
Bear Contracting is seeking an Estimator who specializes in Heavy Civil construction. A candidate for this position must be proficient in the bidding and construction of mass excavation, utility installation, paving, and bridge building projects.
General Responsibilities:
- Seek out and report on new project leads.
- Attend bid meetings and site visits.
- Solicit and consult with suppliers and subcontractors during the bidding process.
- Calculate quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam and/or cad.
- Distribute addenda and supplemental bid documents to vendors and subcontractors.
- Work on multiple project bids concurrently.
- Review project bid documents, plans, specs, etc. to gain an understanding of project bids.
- Report on project specs, plans, geotechnical reports, contracts and other bid documents.
- Assemble and review historical cost data for similar bids.
- Prepare, review, and present cost estimates for the preparation of bids.
- Produce project schedules.
- Collaborate with estimating and operations team members to meet yearly project goals.
- Collaborate with customers and clients.
- Support pre-job meetings, project turnover, and post-job meetings.
- Continue development of technical skills by attending industry events.
- Maintain awareness of equipment, material, and methods improvements in the industry.
- Exhibit core values to teammates and customers.
- Recruiting as needed.
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Degree in engineering, surveying, construction management, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of State DOTs
- Skilled in the use of HCSS Heavybid or similar estimating software.
- Knowledgeable in data driven decision making.
- Field experience in heavy civil construction projects.
- Experience in project management.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years construction experience.
- Minimum 2 years construction estimating experience.
- Work in-office at our Bridgeport location.
- Effectively complete tasks on or before given deadlines.
- Full-time employment.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines and work overtime and weekends as required.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge and understanding of various construction materials, methods and techniques related to Heavy Civil construction projects.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Projects.
- Willingness to travel as needed to attend events and meetings.
- Willing to work individually and as a team member.
- Effective communication.
