Job Title : Neuro-Rehabilitation Specialist

Job Class : Non-Exempt

Job Reports To : Director Neuro-Behavioral Program

Supervises : N / A

General Statement of Job Function : Provides behavioral management, personal care, teaching therapeutic groups, and intervention to residents while promoting a safe environment.

Minimum Qualifications :

Anyone found guilty by court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals are ineligible for employment.

Employee will not consume or be under the influence of alcohol or other controlled substances.

A Bachelors degree in a related field is required.

Related experience highly preferred.

Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with other team members and with resident population.

Ability to interact with people who are under physical and / or emotional stress. Demonstrates an ability to work in a team setting and group situations.

Must be able to complete and perform proper safety care techniques and behavior management techniques.

Position Summary :

Under the general supervision of the Program Director or designee, participates as a member of the mental health team in a behavioral facility. Provides direct resident care including treatment planning, implementing plans, evaluating treatment, discharge planning, therapeutic programming, teaching group sessions, providing guidance and support to CNAs, and other assigned duties. Neuro-Rehab Specialists should serve as teachers to the residents as well as other staff. It is your duty to oversee behavior management tasks.

Job Functions, Responsibilities, and Functions :

Demonstrates the ability to apply population-specific knowledge (subacute, dementia, TBI, mental illness, and other comorbidities) to the daily care of the residents.

May be asked to participate in care plan and family meetings.

The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide along with reading, writing, and speaking English are necessary skills. Other languages are helpful.

Must have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.

Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the unit.

Sits, stands, bends, lifts [upwards of 50 pounds] and moves intermittently during working hours.

Demonstrates the knowledge of and applies this knowledge to promote respect for the rights and dignity of residents, staff, and community as well as facility.

Promotes confidentiality.

Demonstrating respect and honesty when dealing with resident and facility property.

Is an active member of the facilities quality improvement team.

Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of infection control, fire and disaster policies as needed including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.

Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Participates in continuing education and meets the requirements for annual in-service participation.

Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the resident(s) needs.

Guide and support other staff in a teaching capacity.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action; i.e. judgement calls.

Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.

Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.

Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to address difficult residents.

Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

Work Environment : The work environment will include frequent walking, standing, lifting of up to 50 pounds and carrying items up to 100 yards. Bending, pulling, reaching, climbing, balancing, kneeling and stooping are also required frequently. The employee may be required to care for residents in excess of 200 pounds and may be exposed to blood and body fluids as well as air borne particle that could cause illness. The ability to have full function of vision, hearing and speech, with or without assistive devices, is also required for this position.

The employee may be subject to frequent interruptions and hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.

The employee is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as certain chemicals common in this workplace, infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

The employee may work beyond normal working hours and on weekend and holidays when necessary.
