Internship Summary:
Bear River Health Department is seeking a motivated intern to play a crucial role in assisting the Department in seeking out and successfully applying to be eligible for student loan relief programs relevant to our current workforce. Your contribution will be instrumental in providing meaningful support for the public health workforce.
Responsibilities & Learning Objectives:
- Assist in researching applicable student loan relief programs, eligibility requirements, and best practices for implementation;
- Communicate with the Utah Department of Health & Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, loan servicers, and other participating public health agencies to ensure adherence to requirements and to understand current practices;
- Communicate research findings with Bear River Health Department leadership to coordinate and prepare applications on behalf of the health department.
- Prepare and edit application correspondence, reports, and presentations, ensuring accuracy and professionalism;
- Draft communications to inform employees about the student loan relief program and how to apply;
- Support employee outreach efforts, including organizing information sessions, webinars, or one-on-one consultations to help public health staff understand their options and how to access loan relief;
- Stay up-to-date on any changes in federal or state loan relief policies and advise the department accordingly
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Public Health, or a related field;
- Basic understanding of financial principles, including interest rates, student loan types, and repayment options;
- Strong research and analytical skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Detail-oriented and organized;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information;
- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, with preference given towards Google Suite;
- Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of federal and state student loan programs, including Public Service Loan Forgiveness(PSLF), National Health Service Corps (NHSC), Health Care Workforce Financial Assistance Program (HCWFAP), or HRSA programs.
- Experience working in a public health or nonprofit setting and understanding of the challenges faced by public sector employees regarding student loan management;
- Familiarity with employee benefits programs and experience with policy research.
