We also serve approximately 1,500 commercial, industrial and public authority customers, including the Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ski resorts.Bear Valley Electric Service has implemented a comprehensive wildfire mitigation program, inserted cutting edge technology into all aspects of its business and operations and is aggressively pursuing a greener energy supply portfolio and a sweeping electrification strategy.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES RESIDENCY IN OUR SERVICE AREA

POSITION DEFINITION
The Engineering Planner & Technician provides support to the engineering and planning department including the development of long and short range departmental and budget plans. Included in some of the key responsibilities are: record management, CAD design, trench inspections, and field work. The incumbent will also be involved in the planning, designing, and estimating for customers' current and future projects that meets electrical requirements.

The Engineering Planner & Technician must work independently, collaboratively, and exercise professionalism in an environment of routinely sensitive and confidential issues. Therefore, the employee must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all levels of the company's management staff and employees.
The incumbent is responsible for embracing the appropriate technological tools to accomplish job responsibilities. Subsequently, the Engineering Planner & Technician must understand and utilize the available technology such as data gathering and analysis tools in performing routine and complex duties for the department. They will also be responsible to assist engineering staff on projects that require a work order or require field GPS staking.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Identifies potential consultants, contractors, suppliers and vendors; coordinates qualification application process, and maintains the associated business relationships
* Identifies, recommends, and implements contracting strategies that assure the objectives of specific programs, projects are achieved
* Assists with the data tracking and information investigation required to maintain Joint Pole Committee compliance
* Maintains record keeping activities for the Engineering department
* Performs customer field surveys and gathers required information for connecting new and existing customers to the electric utility system
* Monitors circuit map revisions and gathers required GIS information to allow for the facilitation of information into Milsoft software
* Identifies wire sizes, pole sizes and equipment in the field to assist with the record development of the utility and the JPA database
* Completes pole replacement designs, including secondary circuit analysis, pole loading, and equipment sizing applications
* Performs field engineering, designing, estimating and the inspection of system extensions for service to new and existing customers, while ensuring compliance of policies, rules, rates, and construction standards
* Manages work orders through the entire process
* Coordinates the design of projects with other utilities, including communications carriers along with various governmental agencies
* Initiates GWO preparations including drawings and necessary contracts. Acquires permits and easements, identifying environmental requirements and coordinating project components with customers and external sources
* Assists Utility Engineer and Wildfire Mitigation Supervisor in the investigation on quality of service issues to the customers, including voltage, and load studies
* Responds to emergency conditions and assist in restoring the electric utility system to normal operations as they arise
* Performs linear analysis on multiple pole replacements to determine the best use of resources in larger distribution projects
* Completes distribution design projects for the improvement of the electrical grid per engineering principles and construction standards
* Manages small and large-scale projects with status updates, field and calculation reviews, and works with contractors/consultants on final work product submissions
* Supports the Utility Engineer and Wildfire Mitigation Supervisor as needed with department goals and projects
* Maintains accurate inputting of data into the BVES, Inc. Inspection Software program
* Other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering OR successful completion of a Utility Planning Certification AND 3 years of directly related experience required
* Two years of experience at a utility with progressive responsibility as an engineering aide or higher or four years of technical experience in facilities or construction
* Must have strong computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel and Outlook, including the ability to effectively use available technology to streamline processes
* Experience with Oracle J.D. Edwards Enterprise One system preferred
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD drafting; circuit mapping, design work and electrical principles. Familiar with G.O. 95 / G.O. 128 standards and Electric Utility knowledge of Distribution and Transmission construction practices
* Available to provide support in storm or emergency situations

May include but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping and crouching, sitting, typing, walking, reading, writing, color determination, speaking and listening for extended periods of time.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

The compensation range provided is in compliance with state specific laws.Multiple factors are used to determine the actual starting rate of pay for all of our positions, including specific skills, years of experience, education, certification(s), and other job related factors.
