Drives results through implementation and enforcement of Company EHS standards, manages compliance to customer requirements from an EHS perspective. The Director of EHS reports to the Vice President of the Service.
- Develop and implement comprehensive health, safety, and environmental policies in accordance with legal and corporate guidelines.
- Lead safety/regulatory audits both internally and externally.
- Monitor compliance with policies, performing site inspections, and preparing detailed reports on findings.
- Develop a branch safety audit program
- Perform and oversee the investigation of accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions including interfacing with workers’ compensation claims.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and developing preventative strategies.
- Partner with the training department to develop and issue safety training
- Develop and maintain a job site safety analysis process for the field teams
- Establish a process for job site safety meetings and an audit program for compliance.
- Maintain accurate OSHA logs, and ensure posting and reporting obligations are completed as required
- Developing and maintaining documentation related to EHS initiatives, such as inspection forms and training modules
- Implement, inspect, and maintain job sites and office manuals. Train employees in various safety procedures according to the safety management plan.
- Conduct periodic safety inspections in branches, job sites and corporate locations to ensure safety procedures are in place.
- Update and maintain the company’s contingency and recovery plan.
- Communicate with injured workers and plan return to work strategies .
- Participate in Safety Committee as SME for EHS.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives on EHS policies and programs
- Track and report all vehicle incidents and accidents and report to internal stakeholders monthly.
- Maintaining current knowledge of legislation and regulatory requirements related to health, safety, and environmental matters that impact the organization including the US and Canada.
- Oversight and management of safety databases including but not limited to DISA, ISNetworld & Avetta
- Supervise Canadian EHS Manager & Compliance Coordinator
- 7 years of EHS experience, including a minimum of two years of supervisory responsibilities.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of the legal health and safety guidelines relevant to the US and Canada.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficient use of EHS management software and tools.
- CPR/First Aid Certified.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
- Conduct on-site evaluations, walking up to a mile on uneven surfaces to assess service conditions and address any issues.
- Occasionally lift and move equipment or materials weighing up to 25 pounds as part of service operations.
- Travel to various locations up to 50% of the time to oversee operations, meet with clients and ensure compliance with EHS standards.
- Must possess a valid US Passport
- Sound/ethical judgment, strong leadership skills, and ability to work independently.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
