Job Summary
The Controller supports the Finance and Executive teams throughout the fiscal year.
Under the direction of the VP of Finance, the Controller is responsible for the oversight, preparation, analysis and distribution of the company’s consolidated financial statements. This position manages the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes including variance analysis to ensure accurate, timely and relevant financial reporting. The Controller works collaboratively with all departments and outside stakeholders, providing supervision to select members of the accounting team as directed by the VP of Finance.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Directs general ledger and accounting functions and systems
- Manages reconciliation and period closing procedures
- Generates interim financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
- Manages bi-annual compilation and review process by coordinating with outside accounting firms to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes, including GAAP
- Produces annual budgets and forecasts and authorizes requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Manages accounting team support of project-level financial analysis and reporting
- Implements processes to control costs and monitor profitability
- Manages cash flow analysis and projections, ensuring collateral requirements are compliant with company policies as well as banking and bonding agreements
- Prepares WIP reporting for various stakeholders
- Supervises fixed asset transactions and reconciliations to general ledger, including depreciation systems
- Assists VP of Finance by supporting strategic goals and initiatives, including the development of banking and bonding relationships
- Supervises and evaluates performance of assigned accounting staff, including the recommendation and implementation of personnel actions
- Maintains knowledge of company policies and procedures and makes recommendations related to necessary updates, creation, and implementation of policies and procedures to support continuous improvement model
- Performs other duties as assigned by VP of Finance

- Ability to clearly communicate financial information and insights to various stakeholders
- Exhibits exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks and responsibilities
- Proven success with managing and running WIP thereby ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of project costs and revenues
- Experience resolving reconciliation discrepancies between databases and systems
- Aptitude for identifying, communicating and supporting recommendations for continuous process improvement
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines and ensure consistent, actionable deliverables
- Talent for fostering a collaborative environment by effectively utilizing team members’ strengths to enhance overall productivity and achieve departmental goals
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuously updating IT skills to stay current with industry trends
Employment Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or MBA with accounting concentration
- 5 years of experience as a Controller or similar position within the construction industry
- Proven supervisory skills with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Solid process improvement skills and a proven change agent
- Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in an indoor office environment and an active outdoor construction site environment.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions and be exposed to dirt or dust.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment most of the day.
- Must be able to lift and carry 25lbs regularly and 50lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to work for long periods of time in front of a computer or while standing
Salary : $95,000 - $145,000
