Job Summary
Supports the Project Team throughout the entire life cycle of the project, from bid to completion.
Under the direction of the Foreman, the Crew Leader performs construction and installation tasks and manages construction crews to complete those tasks all while maintaining schedule compliance and enforcing project safety. The Crew Leader assists in recognizing & reporting prime and subcontract change event opportunities, reviewing project submittals for installation, and confirms work conforms to the approved contract documents. The Crew Leader works collaboratively with personnel as assigned by the Project Team.
Responsibilities and Duties
Construction Management
- Reviews the safety plans and protocols with Safety Director.
- Supports & enforces on-site safety.
- Support the management of daily huddles and review DJSA’s with subcontractors
- Review of safety protocols with crew & staff, and with subcontractors.
- Examine and Install safety barriers where required.
- Read and understand the Geotechnical Report.
- Support the development of a tool and equipment list for mobilization as well as performs audits of tools and equipment assigned to crew.
- Lead Bearing’s installation crews to meet or exceed daily production goals.
- Collaborate with the Foreman to identify and request materials & supplies a minimum of one week in advance of the proposed construction activity.
- Request additional workers and schedule required equipment in advance.
- Read and comprehend the work packs & drawings to perform assigned tasks.
- Provide support for the weekly progress meetings.
- Support the review, coordination and management of the 3-week look-ahead schedules.
- Provide support for the management of weekly internal/sub coordination meetings.
- Support the daily management of primary & secondary subcontractor installation crews.
- Confirm Punchlist items are completed promptly & accurately.
- Support demobilization from the project site.
- Responsible for quality control of all work performed by all crews under their purview.
- Completes work assignments and assemblies as assigned by supervisors whether verbally, in the 3-week lookahead schedule, or elsewhere.
Personnel Management
- Perform orientation of tradesman and laborers as assigned
- Perform employee reviews of assigned staff and develop improvement plans when necessary. Including follow up of improvement plan status.
- Perform training of assigned staff members and ensure expectations are being met.
- Submission of employee payroll and Solving payroll conflicts when issues arise.
- Reporting and documenting employee incidents and accidents to superiors.
- Provide direction and oversite of all assigned employees.
Cost Management
- Confirm delivered materials’ quantities conform with delivery receipts/bills-of-lading.
- Perform daily & weekly payroll reporting for self and assigned crew for foreman review.
- Coding of material invoices ordered or released by oneself to be reviewed by foreman.
- Provide necessary back-up and information to management and billing staff regarding purchases and work performed.
Skills and Abilities
- Exceptionally detail oriented, organized, and focused on quality.
- Ability to learn new software applications quickly and with little direct supervision.
- Ability to research and comprehend the details of contract documents and drawings.
- Possess strong desire to keep IT-related skill set relevant and useful.
- Ability to prioritize time to meet deadlines, anticipate issues and avoid bottlenecks.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
Employment Requirements
- High school diploma/GED required.
- 3 years of experience in construction duties.
- Ability to read and write in order to maintain records and work schedules, to read work orders, specifications and so forth.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interact with co-workers, clients & their staff in a respectful and courteous manner.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Experience
- Previous water/wastewater construction experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in an active outdoor construction site environment.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions and be exposed to dirt or dust.
- Must be able to wear the required personal protective equipment while at work.
- Must be able to lift and carry 25lbs regularly and 50lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to work for long periods of time while standing.
