What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laborer position at Bearing Construction, Inc.?
Construction Laborers perform tasks involving physical labor at construction projects. These team members operate a variety of hand and power tools and will clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces, erect structures, clean rubble, and debris and remove waste materials. This position also assists other craft workers.
Tasks:
- Performing a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in construction projects.
- Maintaining a clean job site: picking up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards
- Handling and storing materials
- Shoveling, raking, seeding, checking grade, etc
- Loading and unloading trucks and hauling and hoisting materials
- Ensuring that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, bringing problems to the attention of the Foreman, Safety Director, or HR Manager
- Measuring distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch lines tight
- Bolt, nail, and help align items
- Loading and unloading material from trucks
- Level earth to fine grade specifications, using pick, shovel and rake
- Mixing concrete, as necessary, with hand tools or by using portable mixer
Helping place concrete, using a wheelbarrow or power buggy
- Perform variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools, such as demolishing buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projections from concrete, and cut and attach insulating material
- Will be required to assist other carpenters or employees in the performance of their duties.
- May be required to operate hand and power tools as well as operate company equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to supply basic tools required for the position (such as tool box, hammer, nail bag, etc). A full list will be provided.
- Needs to have a commitment to safety and keeping work area neat and clean.
- Help keep the jobsites clean by sweeping compound, HEPA vac., and brooms
Required Skills:
- Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions
- Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in construction work
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
Required Experience:
- High school or equivalent
- Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work in an active outdoor construction site environment.

Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.

Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.

Must be able to work in various weather conditions and be exposed to dirt or dust.

Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment while at work.

Must be able to lift and carry 25lbs regularly and 50lbs occasionally.
