1st Shift Lumber Stacker

A lumber stacker completes the following tasks on a daily basis. 

Hours 7:00am - 5:30pm (Monday - Friday)

Essential Functions (Descrambler):

· Needs to have a complete understanding of stock specifications for widths being produced, tracks length introduced in the rip system to maintain stacking specifications, ability to read and follow rip schedules.

· Required to read manuals related to machine and be able to understand the functions of the equipment within the scope.

· Tracks incoming moisture to ensure system is running to material specifications

· Maintains equipment through PM program and does all necessary adjustments to ensure machine is operating correctly and within specification.

· Responsible for daily operator maintenance on equipment.

· Must perform start up checks ensuring that all equipment is operating correctly.

· Help Mechanics finish PM’s assigned Lico by Supervisor in a timely manner.

· Must have  perform repairs as needed.

· Must be able to stack stock consistently and in desired lengths and notify management when system is not performing to standard

· Responsible for monitoring system to ensure stock is ripped correctly to optimize yield.

· Must be able to clear jams in the system in a timely manner.

· Responsible for ensuring that chain lugs are kept full at all times during operation. Must keep eyes on descrambler for jamming and that each lug only has one board. 

· Must operate tilt hoist that feeds the descrambler and ensure that enough material is being fed into descrambler hopper to maintain 100% lug capacity.

· Must be able to operate tilt hoist in manual mode when system malfunctions.

· Required to perform daily housekeeping in area of responsibility during shift. Work area must be kept clean daily. All debris must be cleaned during or prior to leaving work and not left for other shift

· Visually keeps check on belts, bearings, chains, feed roll, etc., on machine for signs of wear or unusual noise.

· Must be LOTO certified on all listed equipment in the scope.

Essential Functions (Stacker):

· Responsible for knowing and learning the difference between boards widths.

· Must catch and transfer all narrow strips to waste conveyor if missed by strip conveyor, and stack like widths and lengths together in the correct bins.

· Responsible for pulling off unlike lengths that are being ripped and some widths (predominantly 5”) that will not make the 2 widths that being stacked in the stacker.

· Responsible for stacking packs and ensuring that each pack is square and stable.

· Required to push full buggies of stacked off-fall.

· During production down times, performs clean up duties in plant or work area until machinery is back in operation.

· Work area must be kept clean daily. All debris must be cleaned during or prior to leaving work and not left for other shift

· Visually keeps check on belts, bearings, chains, feed roll, etc., on machine for signs of wear or unusual noise.

· MUST BE PROACTIVE AT ALL TIMES. Must try to prevent problems from happening and not wait for them to happen and then try to correct them.

· Must be able to reset metal detector when tripped, and inspect saw blanks for nails, staples, and other foreign objects that will bust planer inserts.

· Must be able to pull boards to designated spot to be transferred by the swede roll. Also, must be able to trouble shoot and unjam this roll in an efficient and timely manner.

Physical/Safety Requirements:

1. Must be able to stand for 12 hours a day.

2. Must be able to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs. when performing maintenance on equipment.

3. Must be able to lift 1-50 lbs. on a regular basis throughout the day (handling materials).

4. Must be able to safely work around moving machinery and focus on the importance of hand safety.

5. Must be able to work in industrial environment with elevated noise levels, dust, dirt, humidity and temperature variations
