Job Description Summary
The lead instructor is primarily responsible for leading, overseeing, and participating in the work of faculty responsible for providing classroom and laboratory instructional services, as well as performing a variety of administrative tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. This person will serve as program director for the therapeutic massage program and is required to maintain all licensure as required by the NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy. Pending SACSCOC approval and availability of funds.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Be licensed under the NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy for at least 5 years;
-OR-
2. Have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
-AND-
1. Have 2 years of experience as a lead instructor in one or more of the curriculum courses taught in the program.

2. Have at least two years in education administration.

NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy licensed for 2 years and experience in post secondary education
Essential Duties
The lead instructor is primarily responsible for leading, overseeing, and participating in the work of faculty responsible for providing classroom and laboratory instructional services, as well as performing a variety of administrative tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
1. Provide quality instruction to students.
2. Advise students and be knowledgeable of the student’s program of study requirements.
3. Incorporate innovative and creative teaching techniques.
4. Be responsible for administrative aspects relating to FTE reports, end of semester reports, and posting grades.
5. Collaborate with the academic dean and adjunct faculty in the creation of syllabi; the establishment of objectives, learning outcomes, and assessments; and the selection of textbooks, periodicals, and other resources.
6. Ensure faculty maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs or accreditation requirements.
7. Assist the Academic Dean in long- and short-range planning and determining an annual budget.
8. Submit class schedules and book orders for courses in assigned program areas.
9. Recruit, mentor, and evaluate qualified adjunct instructors (in conjunction with other full-time faculty members in the discipline, as appropriate).
10. Verify the work of assigned faculty for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
11. Conduct performance evaluations of faculty in the department.
12. Lead, plan, provide training to, and review the work of faculty responsible for providing classroom instruction and laboratory demonstration services relating to a specific academic program.
13. Serve as initial contact for student complaints or concerns.
14. Serve on committees and fulfilling assignments.
15. Carry out duties in a professional, ethical and collegial manner that enhances the purpose of the college.
16. Exhibit an understanding of the “open door” philosophy of BCCC.
17. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Academic Dean or Vice President of Academics.
