Hiring salary - $53,058

Rate after successful completion of 12-month probationary period - $55,711

MSW / BSW degrees are preferred. College transcripts are required.

Applicants with qualified work against status may be considered at lower salary and grade.

5,000 will be added to base pay for selected applicants who have successfully completed their Masters of Social Work degree.

The primary role of the worker is to provide direct and preventive services to children and families in an effort to prevent child abuse, neglect and dependency. This position will explore and assess the family's strengths and needs to determine the level of intervention needed; locate and arrange for the provision of appropriate services and assist families in utilization of services and community resources. The Prevention Social Worker will also provide information, referrals and services to promote family's independence, self-sufficiency and problem solving skills. This position will also provide child welfare services. These services include screening reports for abuse, neglect and dependency, assessments for safety and risk of harm to children, conducting home visits, making courtesy requests for neighboring counties as well as conducting home studies and making placement recommendations. This position could be responsible for providing in-home services to families when they have been found to be in need of further services. This position could be responsible for foster care services for children. This could include but is not limited to : counseling foster children and their families concerning complex family and personal problems; supervising activities and counseling with neglected, abused, or emotionally disturbed children and their relatives; analyzing family dynamics and child rearing problems; exploring feasible goals of possible return of a child to the home; and if return to the home cannot be accomplished, seeking alternative permanent plans which may require petitioning the court to terminate parental rights. This position will be responsible for other duties as needed, to include investigation of allegations of elder abuse or neglect.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to complex casework, group work and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral, and / or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community, laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training. In certain settings, considerable knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problems. Ability to supervise, train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students or interns in the program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of caseload and their families, as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Ability to perform manual work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Minimum Training and Experience

Master's Degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience; Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; Bachelor's degree in human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.

  • Directly related experience is defined as human services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered for "work-against" status.

BSW or MSW degrees are preferred. College transcript is required. All degrees must be from an accredited institution. Fluency in Spanish desired.
