The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist is responsible for processing all releases of medical record information requests in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The ROI Specialist greets and provides a variety of customer support services to patients and visitors to the BMAC along with providing assistance to physicians and their office staff, hospitals and other health care facilities, insurance companies, attorneys’ offices, and other requestors of protected health information. The ROI Specialist will exercise sound judgment and critical thinking skills in the performance of job duties. The ROI Specialist will be able to work independently, demonstrate a high tolerance for interruption of tasks, will be able to multitask, and will have the ability to refocus to task completion while maintaining a positive and helpful attitude. The ROI Specialist must at all times safeguard and protect the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information and that all releases are in compliance with the request, authorization, hospital policy, and HIPAA regulations.
The ROI Specialist will also complete the following duties: Create work orders, receive billing payments, process financial assistance applications, notarize legal documents, act as greeter for the 3rd floor BMAC , assist patients with the patient portal process.
Position RequirementsEducation:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Post high school education preferred to include specialized health care related subjects, e.g., records management, medical terminology, computer classes, use of office equipment, i.e., fax machine, copy machine, multi-line phone system.
Experience:
- Two years of experience in a Health Information Management field or as an administrative assistant in a healthcare setting preferred. Proven customer service experience and/or training. Effective use of computer software and technology including Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience in use of electronic health record, Meditech computer system, PAC S Imaging system for producing CD’s/DVD’s, release of information oftware, and various types of office equipment preferred.
Certifications/Licenses:
- South Carolina notary or notary eligible preferred.
